Transaxle Gear Lightening & Service;

Can anyone suggest a transmission shop with experience in the Seattle area to lighten gears, replace syncros and generally over-haul 2 TA trannys for me?

I have a resource in Cali and will go that route when all else fails, but I just thought that a local resource would save on time and shipping as well as support the locals.

Sorry about the cross-post. (Not everyone – self included – always reads the local posts…)

I would use Merritt Carden in the Bay Area.

At Centerline we recently had many sets of gears lightened for the 105/115 cars, and our very experienced machinist (he has parts currently on Mars) did botch a few gears before he got set up to do them perfectly. Obviously, if you are only having two sets done munching a gear is not a good option, so experience counts.

If anyone is looking for 105/115 gears, we have these on the shelf, ready to ship:

Joe,

Did you both back-cut and drill the gears?

I have seen tech specs for that on the milano/75-site:

Any concerns with regards to structural integrity with both back-cutting and drilling?

Jes,

We only drilled them, which gave about a 25% reduction in mass. We could have back cut them at additional expense but these were intended as street gear sets to give maximum longevity to your rebuilds.
