13th Annual Seattle Italian Concours d’ Elegance at Pier 62/63: CANCELLED

13th Annual Seattle Italian Concours d’ Elegance at Pier 62/63: CANCELLED

8/25/04

It is with deep regret that the board of directors of the Seattle Italian Concours has announced that the 13th annual Italian Concours at Pier 62/63, scheduled for Sunday September 5th has been cancelled.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the engineers of the City of Seattle have informed us that there are structural concerns on the Pier. Therefore, we cannot place the current load of vehicles, trucks and trailers on the Pier as we have in years’ past. With the anticipated 160-170 vehicles expected at this year’s event, and the logistical constraints put on us by the city engineers, we were left with no choice but to cancel this year’s event. With only a 13 day notice from the City of Seattle, this has left us no time to locate, secure and setup an alternate site.

In addition to our concern for the safety of you and your vehicles while on the Pier, we know the positive reputation our event has amongst the automotive and motorcycling community and with such short notice we felt that we would not have the time to pull together a top notch show that you have come to expect from us each year.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused all our valued sponsors, vendors and exhibitors. We will begin issuing refunds to everyone in the next few weeks.

The city engineers are currently working on a plan to renovate the Pier by next year as well as developing a more extensive 5-year Pier reconstruction plan.

Not wishing to simply cancel the event, we are working with the City of Seattle to secure an alternate location for an informal picnic gathering where we can all still get together and enjoy the beauty of Puget Sound, catch up with old friends and talk about all things Italian! Please visit the website for updates.

Again, the board of directors would like to extend their sincere apologies for this short notice and any inconvenience it has caused. We look forward to picking up next year where we left off by having Maserati as our featured marque on a newly reconditioned and structurally sound Pier.

Please continue to visit our website for updates on the Pier and next years event.

Sincerely,

Board of Directors
Seattle Italian Concours d’ Elegance

Has thought been given to moving the next show to a local golf club ala Concours Italiano or a park like the Vancouver BC show (or the first few Italian Concourses when it was at a winery in North Bend)? The cars look so much better on grass!

Ciao,

Yes there has been much thought about finding a new venue for the event. We'll keep every one up to date with information as soon as we have it.

8/30/04 Update:

The Concours board has been unable to find a location for the proposed picnic. Our first choice was Myrtle Edwards park, but there was very significant damage done during Hemp-fest that has closed the park to events until repairs can be made. We looked for other locations as well and were unable to find anything that was available on a holiday weekend with such late notice. This was very disappointing news, as we all wanted to have some sort of event this year.
Thanks for you continued support

Steve I don't know what parks were discussed since I was not the one talking to the parks department. I do know that we had to be very carefull about the accessiblity for some of the larger cars lke Testarossas and Countaches because of a very wide stance and low clearance.
Thanks

The hangars out at Magnuson Park might be a good venue as well:

I would propose Fort Ward Park on Bainbridge Island. The roads leading to the park are wonderful and the park itself has a single linear road running its entire length. Cars can line up on the road or on the grass right next to the water.
