veglia vs jaeger gauges

Can anyone clear this up for me. Their is a seller on ebay with gauges from a mk1 1750. He says that the Mk1 1750 Gtv had Jaeger Gauges and that mk2s had veglia ones. Does anyone know what the deal was with gauges? Did the mk1's have different gauges to mk2's ? Or was it like the carbs, you either got webbers, dellortos or Solex, simply the luck of the draw. My mk2 has jaeger gauges and I cannot see any reason as to why they all would have been replaced as the car is pretty much untouched. Moreover, I have only ever seen jaeger gauges on two 1750's, my Mk2 and a very good South African mk1 in london that I looked at last year. I have looked at dozens of 1750's in the Uk and Australia and have never noticed a clear deliniation in gauge brands between the version. In my mind it was all very random.

Anyone care to express an opinion or show me the light.

Phil

emr5503, can't say I have a preffered type. I am just used to seeing more veglia sets on australian and uk 1750's. I must say i don't like the look of the gauges on the 2 litres, but then I don't like the interiors of 2litres anyway ( sorry 2litre owners). The 1750 for me is the total package, I love the interior, the grill and that sweet sweet motor. ut hey we are all different.

Cheers,

Phil

All depended on what the factory had on their shelves.
My 1750 1a serie has Jaeger another 1750 1a serie here in Greece has also Jaeger , most of the European models I have seen in pictures have Jaeger for the Mk1 version and Veglia for the Mk2.

Typical Alfa. The parts books show both types as being correct. My first 1750 Mk1 had Jaegers; current Mk1 has Veglia and the chassis numbers between the two are only 140 units apart! And more proof that TAKIS' statement is true, my first Mk1 had the air cleaner on the left side; current Mk1 has it on the right side but I know of another Mk1 built 7 months after my current Mk1 and the air cleaner is back on the left side!

Yeah but papajam, I bet they are both 69 mk1s correct. They switched the airfilters on the 69 mk1's half way though the year, I have seen 68 and 69 mk1 with the old style cross over filter ( like a sprint) and I have seen mk1's with the mk2 and 2000 style filter aswell.

I am more scared of the carby roulette, I had a mate with Solex carbs on his 73 model. Nothing but trouble, mind you that particular car was a real Piece of SH#T from the day he bought it. I did warn him

Yes, I think the permanent change to rightside air cleaners was in '69. But both my Mk1s were built in Feb. 1968. So I guess Alfa had planned to switch to RH air cleaners starting with the '68 models but had a s***load of LH air cleaners to use up.

Apologies to Phil for getting even more off the gauge topic here but carbs are another part Alfa used from a variety of vendors. To my knowledge, Alfa used Webers for the twin sidedraft models thru the 1750 series. Then the '72 2l cars got either Solex or Dellorto - no Webers. Sometime in '73 (or perhaps later - my 2l parts book is a '72), Alfa had Webers again! The inconsistancy is the only constant!
