Other Mechanics On Long Island

Seems all of the requests for mechanics on Long Island come back recommending Alfa Auto Clinic in Baldwin and International in Huntington. Unfortunately, I don't live near Baldwin as all of their feedback is very positive and what I hear about International is not consistent. I remember someone telling me about another shop in Huntington, but can't recall the place. Can anyone offer another recommendation in Suffolk County?

I live in eastern Suffolk county and have tried out some shops here in lue of the drive to Baldwin. What a mistake! The other shops took twice as long, cost much more and the work quality was inferior. Plus, they had no idea where to get parts and hand no suitable used parts in stock. Before you make the same mistake, deal with Alfa Auto Clinic. They are pros and have a magical stock room that looks like a mess but always seem to find a normally unobtainable part. Matter of fact, the shop looks like a mess but I take all my cars there now. They helped me with my Super that I drove to California and back without a single issue.

Yes, they work on all Italian and exotics. I've seen them rebuild a 12 cylinder Lambo and had them adjust the valves on my 2 cylinder Fiat 500. They have 2 Fiat spiders on the lot (parts cars) and plenty of used FIAT parts in stock. Tell Giuseppe I sent you. BTW, they are closed this week for vacation.

I've also tried both Alfa shops in Huntington, International and Worldwide, they're both crooks, they both grossly overcharge and aren't as good technically as Alfa Auto Clinic in Baldwin. Worldwide changed two rear springs for me and charge me four(4) hours labor. The results were that one side was way too high and Michael (the owner) offered no remedy. I went to Alfa Auto Clinic and they fixed the problem immediately. They removed both springs two times, cut them, and reinstalled them in less than 45 minutes! Did Worldwide screw me? You bet. International charged me to repair problems that he caused (Angelo-the owner) was totally unsympathetic. I paid Worldwide over $1,800 to replace all gaskets on my Spider in an effort to stop oil leaks. They claimed that they changed all of them, but the leaks persisted. A complete waste of money. Don't waste your time or money, GO TO ALFA AUTO CLINIC in Baldwin. You'll be treated fairly and they will fix your problem the first time.

True enough. Giuseppe (Baldwin) is a stand up guy and will not push you to do unwarranted work.

took the long journey from New Jersey to Baldwin yesterday
over 3 hours in driving rain and bumper to bumper traffic

easy ride home on LIRR to NY Penn Station then North Jersey Coast to Long Branch
that only took 2.25 hours station to station
many thanks to Victor for the ride to Baldwin station

La Bella Macchina is in Giseppe's capable hands now
He made me feel comfortable, like working with my Sicilian cousin
only 15 days till we hit the mother road and parts west

FWIW, you might want to try (now that he really is back) Giuseppe LoRe/Alfa Import Center, 49-14 25th Avenue, Woodside, Queens New York 11377, t 718-381-6764.

or in NJ - try EuroTech (who I've not used in some years now but they were when I was - very good) 18 Okner Pky, Livingston, NJ 07039, t. 973-992-2800.

Alfa Auto Clinic did a great job and when I had an electrical issue on the way home (20 miles bumper to bumper on Belt Parkway in 85+ heat was a challenge from the start) they got right onto it when I returned

Marcello and Igy were determined to find the problem (electrical short at temp gauge) and stayed on it - the shop was busy for a Saturday morning

Personally the best Alfa experience I have had with any mechanic that has worked on the car and if I had known them from the start 2 of the times she has failed me might never have happened

Alfa Auto Clinic is VERY experienced in the workings of all Alfa Romeos
- if I had a classic Ferrari I would take it there too!

Certainly worth the commute back and forth to their shop from New Jersey - that alone says it all!!

Lucky you! You had two of the best alfa mechanics around working on your car. They are a great team and nice guys.

I've been sorting through the engine compartment of my new-to-me '73 GTV. I couldn't source the correct molded hoses and water pump belt locally and wanted to take care of them quickly rather than wait for cross-country shipping. Giuseppe sourced everything I needed from his "magic parts room" and the prices were great.

Honestly, the shop area is not like an operating room but they DO know what they are doing. I suppose that if its that important to drop your car off at a shop that looks like a Mercedes dealership, then Alfa Clinic might not be for you. Then again, if over paying, having inexperienced techs and getting free lattes is what you prefer, then by all means don't go to see Giuseppe. On the other hand, if you want good work from a sympathetic team, then Alfa Clinic is still a great shop.

Agreed. The most difficult part for new customers to come to grips with, at Alfa Auto Clinic, is what appears to be an unorganized mess. After a while, watching them do excellent work you start to forget about the scenery and realize how great the shop really is. The shop is messy, busy, smelly and full of life - just like Italy.
