2001 156 Sportswagon cutting out

Hi-I have a 2001 156 1.8ts Sportswagon. Recently I had trouble starting it. The engine would turn over but not kick in. There is fuel and a spark. Then it started cutting out when driving (especially low revs). Garage told me it was the cam sensor which I have had changed. Ran fine but has just started doing it again! Any ideas as I want to try and avoid spending a fortune finding out what it is.
