Importing 1999 GTV into the USA

Hi to all,

I am currently living in Abu Dhabi and my weekend stress reliever is a 1999 GTV with all the Autodelta go-faster goodies. Without a doubt the GTV is the most fun to drive, of all the Alfa's I have owned. I'm thinking of bringing the car back the US, and would appreciate some advice as to how to begin, and what to expect in terms of the overall cost of clearing the various Federal government hurdles. Recommendations of specialist companies who can provide the necessary expertise would really be appreciated.

Richard

NHTSA and DOT guidelines

There are only a handful of registered importers allowed by the U.S. government. Here is the link http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/staticfiles.../ripkg2002.pdf

The DOT and NHTSA website has additional info. This topic has been discussed a lot on the bb and the general consensus is don't even bother it's way too expensive. Some of the prices I that I think were quoted for a GTV or GTV Spider was around $35,000 and up.

What it boils down to, any car under 25 years old, forget about it. After 25 years it's a piece of cake.

Importing a 1999 GTV

Thanks for the feedback. Not good news, but very useful all the same.

yeah, it's sad! When I came here in 1999, I wanted to bring my 1998 Landrover Defender 110, and my 1979 Alfa Spider....no luck. I can't tell you how I hated that.
