156 2.4 jtd running bad and noisey,

hi my alfa 156 2.4, been running ok , 130 miles , now very uneven on start up , smokey , and a metalic nocking noise at low revs going away as the revs rise , smoke clears , and car still performs well , except for the low down low rev knocking, also noticed a noise coming from the diesel tank , like a high pressure whine , which also goes off , and on ,i can only draw the engine noise to that of a petrol when the timeing has moved , preignition sort of noise ,, any advice would be great ,, thanks kevin
