156 2.4 JTD Keeps cutting out

Hi, I am haveing persistant problem with my JTD, It will start and run straight away then suddenly engine stops?, It will then restart straight away after about 30 seconds then same happens again. but if you start then drive off and thrash it, itseems to run fine ? it has been on diagnostic and a low fuel pressure error message is present but been advised that this would be flagged up as engine stops anyway. I have also replaced intank fuel pump and relay, crank sensor fitted below startermotor and the fuel pressure sensor fitted at rear of high pressure mech pump on engine?. any ideas before i buy a jap car!.
Mick.

You seemed to have relaced all the obvious things (crank sensor etc) so I can't help you but try...

Fun starts @ 3000! (very good technnical forum for 156's)

or AlfaOwner.com

Lots of helpful and knowledgable people there hopefully they'll find a fix for you

Good luck

I am having the same sort of problem on my 156 Sportwagon (1.8ts). Was told it was the cam sensor which I have had replaced. Seemed to work fine but it is happening again. If you have any joy would love to know what you did. Am a bit of a luddite when it comes to engines but was thinking of maybe something to do with the carb/fuel injection? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

problem found on my JTD

Hi, Thanks for reply I found the problem with my diesel it is the DRV valve bolted directly to back of high pressure fuel pump.
This is unfortunatly not going to be your problem on a petrol engine?.
Suggest you look at fuel pump or relay for same your pump located inside fuel tank you can gain access to pump by removing rear seat base.
Hope you find fault,
Mick.
