156 V6 - manual control of A/C compressor?

Greetings Alfisti,
We've just bought an early model 156 V6, and we would like to know how we can set the A/C compressor to be controlled manually, and not turn on automatically. We have heard that there is some sequence of buttons to press to make this happen, but there's nothing about this in our 156 handbook. If anyone could please tell us the details, we'd be very grateful.

(Last year, there was a post on the forum, which said: "... on the first series 156 - those with semi-automatic climate control -the A/C will turn on automatically, there is a sequence to deactivate in the handbook...")

Many thanks Antti - I've gone to that site and obtained the info, and will try it out some time. Reason we wanted to stop the compressor always turning on automatically was that we don't need air con in our climate, and we'd heard that the compressor wastes a lot of power and fuel - but maybe it doesn't!

Hello Antti,
We have printed out the manual-control procedure from the website you mentioned, but we found two problems when we tried the procedure in the car.
- First problem... In Step 4, it says "Turn the air direction knob to mid-direction position, fully to the right." Problem is that fully to the right is Demist position, and mid-direction is fully to the left. Perhaps it should say, "Fully to the left"?
- Second problem... In Step 8 it says, "Turn ignition key back to Stop." Problem is that the key is already in Stop, because we put it to Stop in Step 7 previously. So, we don't know what to do in Step 8....

If you are able to help us solve these problems, we would be very grateful.

Check also the cars manual if you have it, it might be there also

found some other :

Set fan to off
Setting the temp control to maximum
Set the air flow to face
Turning the ignition to "MAR"
Turn fan to auto, off, auto and off
turn off ignition
