Exclamation 156 selespeed starts runs then gets very hot and stops

i have today brought a lovely 1999 alfa romeo 156 selespeed for only £1000 but was driving it around today and the temprature gauge was 3 quarters full and it stopped in a similar sensation to it stalling had to start it and it stalled again of course it cant stall it was in city mode at the time however after the second time it drove fine again but still hot over 90 i toook it back to the dealer and they wouldnt work on it ive looked it up and apparently its the crank angle sensor can anyone help me if they know about it or if its happend to them and if its expensive because i despratley dont want to go out tomorrow and buy a peugoet 406.

crankshaft sensor is about 25-40£, quite common fail, engine temps should be quite close to 90 so maybe your radiator or else needs replacing...

I hope by "temp gauge was 3 quarters full" you don't actually mean that the needle was 3/4 ie showing around 120 deg. If so, more underlying prob than just the sensor mentioned above.
