Xenon "control unit" help

Hi Guys,

just jumped across from the Boxer pages to ask a question. I have a 147 GTA with factory xenon lights. Unfortunatelly some water got into the headlight and blew the "control unit" which I think is the same thing as the ballast (?).

I see that the original Alfa part is $925 Has anyone had this problem and found somewhere to get an equivalent part that works and is cheaper?

I'm in Australia by the way

Thanks

Modern xenon headlight's have three main piece's. Control unit, Ignitor, and Bulb. Something Ignitor, and bulb are one.

I would diagnose the failed part first, because if it's not the unit, you will not be able to return it. Best way to diagnose xenon lights. Remove both control units, and swap. Same goes for the bulb, and ignitor.

Most likely the capsule burned out not the ballast. The ballast is sealed. Moisture in the lamp itself would not get to the ballast. Replace the capsule(bulb). Or swap the good bulb to that side to make sure the ballast is 100%. Make sure it is all dry first, take the lamp out and dry it out. Make sure the lens is sealed and the reflector is not damaged.

If you need a ballast I can get you one for much less than that. Roughly they should only be about 300-500USD. NEW but I can get used as well.
