99 gtv - whistling noise

I m getting aquainted with joys of alfa ownership. My 99 GTV ( uk right hand drive) makes a horrible whistling noise over the stereo when I put my foot down. Anybody got any suggestions as to what it is and how to cure it ?
Thanks
mike

is it a custom stereo?
if so it is most probably that the wiring is not up to scratch>
the ground wire may be loose.
this can cause the stereo to pick up the engine frequency and play it thru the speakers>

Hi

I had a sismilar problem a couple of years back...simple fix is to buy a 12v smoothing capaciter...which will take out any electrical noise (about £2 from any electrical shop.

thanks for the tips. about the capacitor. if youve got time a bit more detail would help. where do i connect it ? also it looks a b******d to take the head unit out. (alfa s own) do you need a special tool ? or is there a way round it ?

Hi Mike,

sorry for the delay (I work away a lot).
The smoothing cap (or supressor as it is known in the auto world) should be fixed to the live input on the stereo...the problem you have got is that your stereo must be powered from the incorrect place...so you will rather have to rewire or trace the wireing back to its supply and fix the supressor there.

Halfords or any auto parts place in the UK sell these for a couple of £'s
