I live in South West Wales and have recently aquired a 147 Turisimo with a recorded milage of 38000 miles.

On reading all the gloom and doom relating to timing belt failures at around this milage I decided to bite the bullet and invested in a timing belt kit aquired from Poweralfa.

I had researched the subject for quite a while and proceeded to buy the neccessary tools i.e. Belt tensioner tool[Totally Alfa on e-bay], cam locking blocks [Poweralfa], RIBE splined sockets [Laser Tools].
I carried out the change myself and found it suprisingly easy following the guide I found on the net compiled by Jaap Bouma.

The engine seems to be ok having covered approx 500 miles since the change.

I also split the timing belt cover just above the auxiliary belt protector enabling the top half of the cover to be removed for belt inspection.

Incidentally the new kit supplied by Poweralfa contained a metal tensioner pulley and not a plastic one.
