Hi
My Alfa 155 2.0 8v twinspark burst its intake plenum on startup yesterday. The engine seems to have backfired into the plenum igniting fuel/vapour. Quite a spectacular explosion which blew the top panel out of the plenum.
This has happened on this car before, about 3 years ago. On this ocassion I fitted a new plenum and had the car checked by an Alfa dealer - no cause found.
I'm wondering if the fuel vapour recovery system has failled and allowed fuel vapour into the plenum when the engine is not running, then a backfire into the plenum (why???) and bang.
I haven't found any other instances of this on the forum (either 155, or 145 or 146 which I think use a similar setup).
Anyone else had this problem or can offer any insight as to cause or remedy?
Thanks.
Tony
