After a round of shopping I found that my boot (trunk) was completely drenched with water after a series of heavy downpours.
Now as funny as this may sound, I climbed into the boot and my dad closed me in to see if i could find the problem... which i fortunately did.
The rubber hose concealing the boot lid light cluster wires was twisting over the bootlid insulating rubber.
The fix - cut up one wire coat hanger and thread it inside the rubber hose. Bend into position and close the boot for a couple hours. It now closes perfectly with the wires out of the way.
