ARGTV - 7

Next year, Bruce. It's all together now, just needs "freshening up", and a good meal of $100 dollar bills.

Bruce you are right. This is what I read from one website:

http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks....html#TrackMap

"Track Map
This map shows Laguna Seca as of 1995; the pit area is being revised to provide more room beginning with the 1996 season. Note that the section from Turn 2 to Turn 5 is relatively new; previously the track went straight from 2 to 5, and the current 3 and 4 did not exist"

My mechanic is an ex-SCCA racer who drove a very fast 130 bhp (at the wheels) Giulietta Spider 1.3 and he did mention that the introduction of the first 180 degree turn (the old turn 2 ) really made life difficult for his little car with no torque trying to gain speed climbing up the back straight. He liked the old configuration much better.

I will contact you off line about 1997. That was my first TT event in my stock Milano. I think it was in class D.

I hope to be in race school this year or I won't make it to the Alfa Cup next year.

Should be fun...or at least I hope it will be. But like Brad said, TT is fun, but racing is no game.

Though it was amazing for me to watch Larry go into his first race and winning it as well!

More Laguna Seca

Laguna Seca has a long and interesting history. I have identified what appear to be 2 modifications to the original, 1.9 mile, 1957 course. The first appears to have been in '85-'86 at which time what are now turns 3 & 4 were added. That track was 2.214 miles long. Then in 1996, due to a fatal accident I believe, the corkscrew area was modified slightly. That track, the current one, is 2.238 miles long. Some of this info you can get form http://www.gt-racing.co.uk/circuits/...agunaseca.html .

Laguna Revisions

Laguna Seca used to be 1.9 miles, and was modified to accomodate FIA standards, and subsequently, Indy cars. The "old" track was much more fun to drive, and it had more character. Personally, I find the "new" infield section a bit boring. The other modification was done on turn 9 (or turn 11, as it's called now). The exit was widened, and they took the tire wall away. Also, I belive the short striaght between 10 and 11 was moved east by about 10 feet, hence the front straight is now longer.

The corkscrew wasn't changed. The track is exactly the same, although the runoff area was modified because of the crash Bruce mentioned.

Has anyone else driven the "old track"?

You guys should ask Milt Minter and John Morton what they thought of the old track compared to the new one. They are both going to be at the Enduro.

Here is John in the corkscrew in 1971.....also probably the most infamous Alfa racing moment in recent history.

Or Milt....

This is Milt Minter in the Otto Zipper Tipo 33 Can Am car at Laguna Seca in '73. Note that Milt was racing with a broken neck, and he couldn't hold his head up, so he had the crew TAPE his helmet to the roll bar. He finished 5th. You can see the tape in the picture.
