U2L TA cars to run with Trans-Am at Wine Country
I heard a rumor last month that Steve Earl was considering letting U2L cars with Trans-Am history run in the Trans-Am race (with the O2L cars) at the Wine Country Classic.
Well joy and happiness it has happened, I just received my entry forms forms for Wine country and find my Ex Kwech GTA is included in Race Group 10, the Trans-Am group. Thank you Steve Earl and Chris Vandrgriff for helping recreate the Trans-Am past.
It is thrilling and challenging at the same time. I have gone from a mindset of catching the fast Morgan and Heather to how not to be a moving chicane for the O2L cars so we can do this again. I am curious as to the lap times of the fastest and average O2L Historic TA cars (1966-1972) at Sears Point (can't call it Infineon).
I do not know what other U2L cars are accepted as the entry list is not yet posted. I was told there is a good group of U2L cars with Trans-Am history that were being considered including the Rindt GTA.

Sweet. That will be fun to watch. I bet John Norman will be running in there with you as well. That should be some good racing. If you need a hand in the let me know I will be there anyway.

Trans-Am entry list for Wine Country Classic
The Trans-Am entry list for the Wine Country Classic is now on the General Racing website. Two GTA's, four BMW's, one Datsun 510, and a 911. Eight U2L cars it should be exciting.

There are four cars are running number 6. Interesting that they are letting us keep our original numbers.

I am very surprised not to see Jon Norman's GTV on the list. They have run both classes together many times in the years I have been spectating. It wasn't until 3 years ago that they started shutting the U2L cars out. They probably had a lot of complaints from all the guys in mustangs and camaros that had to explain why they got their a$$ handed to them by Jon

Jon is off to the Monaco historic races with his F1 Brabham.
How did he finish at Sears in the past?

It always amazes me the cars they let into these events and the ones that get the boot. I'm not only saying this because we got the reject letter EVERY YEAR, but also becasue all of the Brecht BMW 2002s with TA history are nor running E30 m3 parts and tons of other tricked out parts from later cars. It puzzles me.

Fabrizio tell me more. I just joined this happy U2L community so I don't have the background. What are you saying? They have no TA history and are cheating?

The Brecht cars are real TA cars. The #35 orange and blue car is one of my favorite cars to wacth and is one of the finest examples of an original TA car. The only thing is that they do not always run the correct motors. It would be like you running a twin spark motor from a later Alfa Romeo that puts out way more power than what was available at the time of the original series. I believe all cars that run these events should prepared as yours is, precisely how it was back in the day.

So they make way more power than the cars did in the era. BTW General Racing did crack down on the GTA's running big motors in the G-3 class.
Since the later BMW's don't get to run G-3 they would not have come under any scrutiny. The cutoff date for G-3 is 1966. The TA cars in general are known to have way more power than they did in the era. I have prepared my GTA with a legal 1600 motor. Of course we are doing the best we can to make good power and I am sure headwork by Dan Marvin is better than what was done in the era. I am hoping to run in the G-3 class when there is no TA group and have opted for a G-3 legal car. I don't care if they have cheater motors as long as they are good drivers and good sports (i.e. not foolish passes)---in an incident they are fixing steel I am fixing unobtainium panels.
If they start pulling the 02L cars on the straights....now that would be a problem .

WOW they let a 510 in? Thats wild. I can't wait to watch this years race. I just picked up a new camera so hopefully I can get some better shots than I did last year. As I said earlier, if anyone needs a hand in the pits let me know. I love vintage racing and I'm willing to help out in any way I can.
I was going to show my Alfa in the Sonoma Plaza car show this year but due to it growing a big dent in the front fender (long story) I will not be (and I'm ticked about it.)

Will thanks for your offer to help. Scott Gray will be taking care of the GTA and I believe we have the mechanical side covered better than the driving side.
Looking forward to meeting you.

"Jon is off to the Monaco historic races with his F1 Brabham."
WOW! Life really is hard for those poor people who are such slaves to their profession
"How did he finish at Sears in the past?"
Jon usually does really well when the car holds together. I remember one year at the Historics (I want to say 2000) when the BRE 510 was there. Morton drove it and they qualified 17th and 19th. It was a 10 lap race and they finished 6th and 7th Pretty spectacular to watch them threading through the big iron.
