Why couldn't someone organize a race?????
No rules, no limitations.
I bring the fastest, most powerful, best handling mother effin car I can design. No bull**** restrictions on displacement, electronics, tires, aerodynamics, fuel, weight.
The challenger does the same and gets to name the road course. Multiple challengers would be welcome but a one on one race might be standard. The Race would be held every three or four five years allowing ample time for teams to develope their next beast.
The braging rights and advertizing upside for manufactures and sponsors would be huge?
Okay, someone kick me in the balls now.

Sounds like a great idea.
There are some drawbacks:
It's been basically done with Gr. B rally back in the 1980s and, although in my opinion it was the greatest era of motorsport, it was very dangerous and short-lived.
Talking about a road race though, now that would be awesome. With modern car safety and a more organised and less-chaotic approach to safety, BRING IT ON!
Also look at the isle of man TT. Not unlimited classes, but quite a dangerous course.

Isn't that kinda what the Can Am Series was?
