No, Alex, Del means that the wholly persuasive explanation that fits all the evidence (including motives, time frame, conventional models of human behavior, timing & scoring data, &c.) is merely camouflage to mask the conspiracy from those of us rubes who seek simple, compelling explanations for what we see. Under this theory of conspiracies, the more compelling and convincing the evidence in favor of the perfectly-innocent apparent explanation, the more it suggests the existence of a brilliant conspiracy operating behind the scenes. CanAmBob's right; there is a conspiracy gene.
Del may think me one of the Great Unwashed, but I'm sticking with the apparent in this case--in the face of compelling evidence, most of the time you simply need to go with the evidence and a modicum of common sense. Of course, being one of the Great Unwashed, I'm clearly a ready dupe, but all the evidence supports the apparent explanation, and my wildest imaginings cannot construct a plausible version of a 'fix' that would fit the facts of the case. Tellingly, from his "beats the hell out of me" comment, neither can Del...
So I'm sticking with my earlier congratulations to Massa, Hamilton, and Ferrari. All involved made their share of mistakes over the course of the year, but it's hard to complain about a season where the drivers' championship literally came down to the last corner of the last race.

As I said in an earlier post, I thought so too--at least until I read that there was a grand conspiracy involved...

I have the 'conspiracy gene'. I love 'conspiracies'...can't get enough of 'em!
But for the life-of-me I can't find one here! Brazil was a great race & I was into-it until the flag came down. It seemed to me that Hamilton was in-the-right-place-at-the-right-time! Congrats to him!
All's well that ends w/Ferrari winning the Constructor's Championship!!! At
least for me.....
Regards.

Per BBC.com, that last section of track is uphill, so in the rain, I'd wager that Timo was simply unable to get his rear tires to fully hook up under accelleration, thus allowing Lewie to make it past (in the absolute nick or time). I scoff at any conspiracy theories regarding this. I am VERY happy that Lewie won his championship, just as I would have been VERY happy if Massa had won it! Either way, it's amazing that this went down to not the last race, not the last lap, but to basically the last corner! Very entertaining.
And like some of the rest of you, I was jumping on the couch and shouting at the tv! Talk about exciting. My central nervous system is still in tatters. And now, my emotional stability is again non-existent due to it now being the off season....arrggghhhhhhh!
Cheers to you all...another great season in the bag.

Well put, guys.
The rain was of course almost the deciding wild factor, the last toss of the dice, and made the last several laps just so exciting, compared to the rest of the season. Of course anyone out on slicks at the end was living on the edge, and Glock almost pulled off a huge upset. I'm sure he was just trying to keep it on the road. To go as fast as he did in that rain showed that he is one excellent driver. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't. Made for an almost totally unimagined/unpredicted finish, didn't it? BTW, would anyone want life to be so unexciting if even "poke in your side" speculating about conspiracies were to be totally dismissed, esp since History is chock full of them?
Personally, I didn't care who won the championship, but think that Massa, from the few races I did see, ran a better season than Hamilton, esp toward the end. Most of these racers are good enough that it's the car which makes the difference, and Ferrari was better in the end, even with the millions McLaren spent at the last in the effort to make their car just a little bit faster; however, it's the season cumulative points, not the number of wins, which determines who wins overall.
Oh well, next year the cars will be totally different. Could be exciting. I look for Alonso to shine anew with the best.
cheers,

Alex,
Will there be a separate conspiracy theory thread next year or will it be incorporated in the main thread like this year?

The last five minutes of that race reminded me why I have wasted so many hours watching slack-jawed the tedium that F1 has become. And I say that cognizant of the meddling by the rain gods, tire manufacturers and Masons who ...........

Hah, if you guys thought I was out of line mildly suggesting hanky-panky at the end of the race, today I stopped by my local Alfa dealer's shop, and the two owners were really shaking their heads at the outcome, figuring that only a few years down the road will we ever find out how the deal was done, and they are not F1 novices by any stretch of the imagination. However, they are Ferrari fans, and that pretty much says it all.
This will end up being more F1 history lore.
