To lure race Alfas to autobahn, potential entrants are probably interested in the location of the sound meters. How far away from the track will these be? (the source measuring 105dB at 100 ft can be a lot louder than if it is measured at 50 ft.). Here's a neat calculator to play with...

Engineering Page > Noise > Attenuation by distance for overall value

Autobahn's sound limits are and always have been 105 db.
Sound levels are monitored every day at different times of the day.
There are several spots on the tracks that we monitor from.
We have a non-negotiable policy of adhering to 105 db.
If your car is over 105db you will have to muffle it, or not run it.

Looking forward to the promised details

Will,

Mike, myself and a half dozen other GTV's with no mufflers have run around there on track days without mufflers or problems FWIW. I don't know if you have ever been next to Mikes duetto at full song, I think it is the loudest Alfa on the track. On thing to note most of the cars Mike prepared have right side dumps so the sound goes to the center of the track. Sound meters are usually at the outside of the track.

Word is that the Wheel to wheel race is going to be a 50 min. enduro with a mandatory timed pitstop to handicapp cars based on lap times. This means there will be no home track advantage. IT prepared cars on street tires will be able to compete with full race prepared cars for the overall win, and the spectatores will get to see ALL types of Alfa's competeing on the track at the same time! This is going to be a BLAST!

Carm, thanks for comments, credit Daniel Mainzer for that great Alfa photo. That's Rob Davenport -red - and Erik Woods - yellow - setting up to pass me.
I've been blessed to race at both Alfas at the Glen (05) and Mid Ohio last year, as Andy says, it'll be a BLAST. Anthony, Rick, and others here in SoCal have heard me wax poetic about these annual gatherings, perhaps this year they'll really make it (Got to encourage you two & others, although I've been towing out, I'll consider the 18 wheeler you're going to set up, right?)
Merry Christmas to all you special Alfisti out there

Wil,

Thanks for the photo caption....I knew the front car, but not the other two; I was curious if the other yellow was the good Dr., although, his is more of the "mustard" color; however, photography can be deceiving.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All.

Wil,
The Alfa race and the Italian car race were a blast to watch. The battle for first was very exciting, as were other duels down the line. I am so glad I decided to go to Mid-Ohio this past summer. Well worth the almost 3 hour drive for me. Thanks for posting the photo.

Carm,
I assume someone is going to tape a full drive around the Autobahn track, right? I think posting that on the Convention Registration site, with a link to it form a post here would be a nice touch...

Best regards,

Carm, I heard today that we will be on the North course at Autobahn. It's the only part of the course that I've driven (in my street car). But it would be really neat to have the whole thing, or the longer South course. If we get a lot of cars with widely varying speeds, it could get really crowded on the North course. We certainly don't want to end up rewarding those willing to make aggressive passes of lapped traffic. Any chance?

Carm, one more thing. I don't think I've seen any mention of the event on the Alfa Race group at YahooGroups. Are you a member there? If not, I could post an announcement of some kind for you. There are a lot of racers there that aren't on the BB.

Hi Erik, Merry Christmas!

Can you forward me a link to the "Alfa Race Group @ YahooGroups", the Web Site has been created and should br running soon. We will show the link in as many places as possible. The best link however is people like yourself and other racers like you. You guys have a pretty good idea who attended Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, etc...

This event belonges to all, spreading the word to the correct groups is vital. In regards to the other side of the track, I'll pass it on to the governing body, I believe that it's not available and that cost would double. Then again, if and when registration opens and we get more than 50 entries?

Carm

I was going to post up there once the website and links are up and running. Don't want to pop the cork before the guests arrive if you know what I mean.

Regarding North vs south vs whole track issue. While I prefer the south or the whole track... The south track is quite technical with 13 turns and the whole track is about 21 turns. A one day track event would not be suitable for drivers to learn the whole track (north south combined) and would be challenging for people to learn the 13 turns of the south and their quirks.

The North track is simple to learn but requires patience and car control through the first few turn's that all link to each other. There are 2 good passing zones under braking and a straight that cars with more HP will be able to pass on. Most of the turns are late apex turns and 2 of them will make you pay if you turn in too early.

I am working on in-car video of laps around the north course. I hope to have a link, or better have it on the event web-site when it launches in the new year.

Andy

Carm, the web address for the race group is:

alfaracing : The Alfa Romeo Racing List

You will probably have to "sign up" in order to post, although you can read the posts immediately.

By the way, for anyone wanting to see the track, you can enter "Autobahn North Course" into YouTube for a couple decent videos.

Okay, my last post on the topic tonight. I just noticed that SVRA is at Mid-Ohio the weekend of June 27-29. Anyone considering a long tow to Chicago might be tempted to stick around another week to race in Ohio. It would be really neat if we could get a bunch of Alfas their as well.
