Couldn't figure out how to copy paste it so here is a link. Stark and Ragonetti will likely come. There are a few others I know of that don't know about the BB who I will mention it to. David M. races an alfetta sedan in VSCDA. The Carrera/panamerica boys still have a competition car. Dave S. has a race guilietta in mothballs as well as Alfredo G.
I am thinking with some work we could get 50 entrants from just the Midwest depending on what the license status will need to be.
This thread should possibly be moved to events or the Chicago thread and retitled with something to do with the wheel to wheel aspect.

Don't forget that Barb Nevoral is also local with a B-Sedan GTV. I'll bet I can get my brother to bring his former National Champ G-Prod Giulietta. Court Whitlock in Springfield, MO has several neat old Alfa racers including an Alfa Bobsy. Cudahy and Reina would probably bring their E-Prod cars. Heck, maybe we could even get Jack Beck to bring his GTL Junior out of retirement for one last race.
Lots of cars out there if we can get it nailed down quickly.

Here is Barb Nevoral's car from last year Road America event. A mild race engine with only 180 horses.

GTA from me?? Whoes car?
Right now, I'm not even sure if I'll be able to come to the convention- I may have to be in Arizona hot testing for much of the summer. For once, work might actually get in the way of fun.
That, and I have to decide which car to bring- the GTV street car (the gold one) or the new to me race car (a red one) which still requires a LOT of work on it.

Come on Erik, GTA / GTV it's only a letter and a few hundred pounds. Your street GTV is fast enough.

If this happens, we'll also be bringing this car.
Winner of the 1971 Targa Florio 1.6 GT class.
Here are a couple past and a present pictures.

Targa GTA
Anthony, if you bring that car, I'll wear a Sicilian paper hat for the day. You know which one's I'm talking about?
BTW, we have compiled a list of approx. thirty possible entries, you need to work from your end to see who's coming. To make this thing work, and in order to get as many racing Alfa participants, we may have a min.of two separate races. Most likely, this event will need to be hosted privately. I will inform everyone after a few of us "here" get together and brainstorm the possibilities.

Sicilian Hat
My grandpa used to make me those hats when I was little. I think I still have one
I'm working on getting a truck load of GTA's to come out there. I need at least 6 cars to secure one truck. I'll keep you updated. There is still plenty of time.

Here's a thought I was about to post in the "2008 Convention suggestions" thread, but you may have already explored the possibility: Use the rules of a recognized Vintage Race sanctioning body and ask to pay the AROC insuror for a rider to cover the race. They might like the extra money. Or, create a race under a sanctioning body, use their rules and insurance, and pay them something. And... maybe find a way for some of the non race-licensed time trial entrants to pay for an advance practice session. They would need to be segregated from the race cars, but might help with the finances. I would certainly come early for such an opportunity, and I bet others would also.

I just competed in the HSR race at the Autobahn CC this past weekend with my GTV and can say that the 3.5 mile / 24 turn configuration that we ran was challenging and suits our Alfa's quite well (however it suited the Porsches even better). I agree with Andy that Elkhart Lake, while beautiful and high speed, is still a course for higher top-speed cars and remains a 3+ hour tow from Chicago, while the Autobahn CC is only minutes away from the convention site.
I would like to think that Chicago Region SCCA and / or a combination of workers including the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs staff could be solicited for the event as long as there wasn't a conflict with the June Sprints weekend.
At Mid-Ohio earlier in the year I liked the way the Alfa's were separated in the Group 3 / Group 8 (under 2 and 2 liter) races, and then having a combined race as well.
Any way you can put it together, though, will be a great time and I'd be proud to enter my cars.

Sooo... at the Autobahn CC or Road America (or with an opp to do both!!!) this is shaping up to be a VERY COOL event! Is it time to start digging up some sponsorship to help defray both the expenses of the event and a travel-costs pool for the long haulers? Also, lets not just think in terms of the cars of the '60s & '70s... there are several extraordinary older racing ALAFs out there... Peter Gidding's P3.. Jon Shirley's P158~159... and several '50s 1900s plus 750 and 105 cars. Let the racers come forward! Wouldn't that be cool!!!
