2nd Semi-annual 24 Hours of Lemons

Rules: run anything purchased for under $500. Whoever with the most laps after 15 hours(?) wins. The wackier the better.

Anybody with the "Pope riding in BMW" photos please post! I missed that one.

What's the story with the 2 liter gtv? The colors remind me of Jon Norman's GTV.

Team California Mille

The competition honor of Alfa was upheld today by Team California Mille. We finished 6th overall and the 1st Eyetalian car. We were driving a '79 Alfetta GT. The race was alot of fun but for the last 5 hours it was 10-15 pumps on the brake pedal to get slowed down. We had some pit miscues and a minor fuel filter problem that set us back a few laps. The group is ready to go again. Look for us to defend our title at the Oct. race.

That spider was screaming fast. What happened to it?
We were the #70 Saab.
The transponder assigned had dead batteries... so everyone else got a 25 lap head start...

Nerf bar, lessons learned from last year - proof of concept.

115 GTV. So rusted-out, nobody could complain about entering it in this type of race.

Turbo-bio-deisel benz. Amazingly fast. Undergoing some body repair here.
The benz drivers were from the "shortest distance between two points..."
school of driving.

Porsche dies early. Driver not taking it so well.

The #70 Boxwrench Saab (us) received some crunching early. A good shot
of some damage, and rustoleum durability.

20mb movie of about two laps worth of green flag action going into the
chicane. There were a variety of entry methods, my favorite being the
200 foot four wheel lockup, followed by a hard left through the dirt.
Don't bother turning up the sound, the wind was blowing about 40mph (it
is the Altamont, after all).

Link to a blow-by-blow blog from someone in the stands. Pics too.

I'm on fire. Uh, should I come in?"

Great job, guys, and totally hilarious! It was great for the rest of us to just watch the wonderful mayhem on the track.

Did that Chevy Monza guy get any organizer punishment? He stuffed one car into the wall, drove around with a bent front wheel for a couple of laps (still passing people), then lost half a rear axle and wheel and finally cruised to a stop. Clueless!

Nobody got a picture of the mannequin pope flying around the track??!
