Thumbs up

Good call!

LH looked like WC material today...

Hoping Robert Kubica is ok. That was the worst crash I've seen since Greg Moore's at Fontana.

A broken leg, that's it. Amazing.

Guess the Safety Car drivers union is pretty strong over there? Almost like Champ Car.

David Hobbs

"we'll have to see if the safety car runs out of gas"
Leave it to David for a much needed quip after silence on the Kubica update. Before leaving the track he clipped Speed's Toro Rosso, then (and I think saving his life) going airborne to hit that unmoving wall at a more glancing anglethan first thought... really, Robert K. you scared the **** out of me. I remember my open wheel days. Kubica was lucky to be driving a F1 car today. Speaks oddles to the technology when something with such energy and force happens.

...clipped Speed's damaged and vacated TR, already off the track.

I believe this is the best start ever for any driver in the history of Gp racing.

Twisted ankle and concussion only. It seems that the rumor of broken femur is not true according to the surgeon interviewed in MTL.

LH is hot and cool in the head. Alonso starts to freak out or what?

Even Nikki Lauda has gone on record to say that he's never seen a more impressive start to a GP driver's career; Stirling Moss has been heaping superlatives on him, too. I just hope that his obvious talent isn't being flattered by a great car under him, like JV in his first season at Williams. In any case, I've just put some money down on him ending the season as champion.

Just when you thought you had seen it all with MS and before that Senna along comes another. Really great to see the new school come through, and who says you cannot overtake in F1?

I have the feeling Michael Schumacher will return next year, to save Ferrari. MClaren seems to have the faster car and most important the much better drivers than Ferrari.

That Kubica is still alive is amazing!!! I felt as if I was watching the Senna crash all over again! Especially when he was not moving!!! I wonder how Senna would have faired had it not been for the freak injury by the front wheel trailing arm? $hi+... that was a bad day... week-end!

I also think that Schumi will 'do a Niki Lauda' and return for one (maybe two) final seasons. He left without beating Alonso, and I think that annoys him. The guy is so competitive that, even without a car this season, he's trying to out-psyche his old rivals (including Raikkonen) by offering technical advice to Massa and being around the pits on race day - like the parent who feels that he never did well enough in his youth but is gonna make damn sure his offspring succeeds instead. He's still got his finger on the pulse of Ferrari development because he's doing unofficial testing at Maranello, so it's not as though he would have to face a steep learning/training curve (unlike when Haikkenen retired and there were rumours about his return).

Raikkonen has had a miserable season after that maiden win, maybe the latter stages will see him settle in and perform at his potential, but it wouldn't surprise me if Schumi tried to make some attempt at a come-back with Ferrari - because there's a brand new challenge in the shape of Lewis Hamilton, who's a racer unlike Mr Consistent, a.k.a. Alonso. I have a feeling this new hotshot is going to be quite a lure ...

Just my hunch!

Alex.

PS - Am I correct in saying that, in theory, a team could still enter three full race drivers for each grid if there was space?

Alonso wasn't so 'Mr Consistent' this weekend though was he!!!.... his first corner incident had "i'm worried about keeping up with this guy so better do something straight away" written all over it.... as racers, its a thought we've all had at sometime, somewhere.... I think Lewis has got Alonso really rattled and I love it!

I agree. I can't think of another rookie ever that has showed so much speed and consistency.
