Has auto racing gootten boring?
Years ago, there was innovation which wasn't challenged by constant rules changes. Today, rules are constantly being changed to equalize fields, and it has turned from sports into sports entertainment. nASScrap and the affiliated Grand Am series throw yellow flags just to close up the fields. Indy car is a spec series. The ALMS, ELMS, and the ACO (Le Mans) put fuel capacity restrictions on diesels. There are only a few series in which there is real racing. I just turned off the Indy race because it's a bunch of has-beens racing a bunch of pseudo-celebs in spec cars and I find it really boring.

you need to look mostly outside the USA to find the great racing. British & European touring car and DTM are a blast to watch. of course there is always WRC.
i think that motorcycle racing is where the real action is at. MotoGP and world superbike are really fantastic, but the most riveting is the TT racing and "road racing" in Ireland, the most famous being the Isle of Mann. i think most Americans used to roundy-round racing would have their heads explode if they saw that . . . check these out :
true, these still do not have the leaps in innovation like the Days-of-Old, but the racing is intense

Most American racing in my opinion is not that fun to watch especially Nascar and Champcar.
I agree what Darth Dino said some great racing is overseas and speed channel doesn't cover these races.
I NEVER get tired of watching Formula 1, some of the most light weight racecars in the world blasting down the track at 18,000rpm now thats pure ecstasy!

I agree, but unfortunately(w/the exception of MotoGP & Superbike)NONE of these races are broadcast on TV, anymore!!! At least not anywhere that I can find...
My one disagreement w/you--I think MotoGP replacing the 500cc GP motorcycles is a mistake. Granted, the MotoGP appeals to a broader range of today's riders, but I much more enjoyed the fantastic technical 'whiz-bangs' of the small 500s...the sheer power, speed, & handling they achieved w/those machines was the true zenith of racing! Even the GP2--basically a 250cc motor 'scooter' engine--developing over 100 horse power & able to hit 160+ MPH(the 500cc bikes 200+ MPH)!!! Truly amazing! The only racing machine that can 'change direction' more quickly is an F1 car--and I'm not that certain even they can do it(?).

I sat on the sofa all day from 4:30am-7:00pm starting with F1 followed by the Indy 500 and then over to the NASCAR race. The F1 race was the most boring of all. Indy was awesome and the NASCAR race was even better.

Is where what's at??? Boring, more boring, & most boring...I tried very hard to watch the Indy 500, today, couldn't do it---all those weenies had to get-out-of-the-rain! Apparently they've never heard of 'rain tires'! I guess it's too difficult to read all the sponsors names when the track is wet!
Oval racing is a joke. NASCAR, Indy Cars, Champ Cars= a great cure for insomnia! Who could possibly think that 'racing' by making ONLY left turns is anything more than an excuse to 'knock-back-a-twelve-pak' & throw the cans at the cars???
Regards

in their first two years with the new formula, racing side by side, the new 4 stroke MotoGP bikes were faster everywhere on the track than the two stroke "zenith" GP bikes they were replacing . . . from day 1. this year they lost almost 200cc (80% the displacement), but are even faster yet
just like F1, the technology increases every year. those old 2-strokes look like dinosaurs compared to the new machines. i was sad when they changed the rules . . . until i saw the first race with them running together.

i don't think my butt could handle that much sitting in one spot
true, there was not much "racing" in the F1 race, but it sure was impressive to watch Hamilton slide the McLaren around between the barriers like that

Wait a minute, WTCC is fun to watch. In fact BTCC was extremely fun to watch, especially when Murray Walker was the commentator.

When it comes to great racing action NOTHING BEATS sprints on dirt. Everything else is like watching clear varnish dry.

You're confused...we're talking(typing)about "racing" not crashing! Sprint cars are the same as they were 30 years ago...
