i did for the first 4 years or so. imo, Spica is great, and in many respects better than Webers, but once i started running the engine past 7000 rpm the hard lines took a beating. constantly lost the clamps, even after double nutting (the studs would just back out), which would lead to broken lines. also had issues with the pump vibrating off it's mounts on the block.

not saying it can't be done, Ingram sells flexi lines for example that won't break, but it does have it's share of issues.

Elliot Shanabrook runs Spica in the Northeast, and he is pretty quick! I really like the modified Spica in my street car. But Webers are just too easy for the race car.

I had similar issues to the ones Pete describes regarding hard line breakage. I han another problem--the small coil spring inside the unit that holds the mixture adjuster lever in place would break. When it breaks the mixture goes to full rich and the engine won't run.

Those units are just not made to go past about 6000 rpm, but when it was running right it was sweet.

I use #3 AN braided fuel lines that I make in the shop and my motor rev's to 7200 in 5th at the long tracks like Daytona and Sebring.......The head comes off like it was on with a zipper..... I am a big spica fan. The braided lines I use, I made a set for my friend Lucciano in Miami for him to try one weekend at Daytona and he reported 600 RPM gain. You need a good fuel cam in the pump and all the brackets that hold it on the front cover etc, or it will fall off. As Jim Kartalamakis says in his book "It is impossible to build a fuel cam for these pumps" I have mine done with an early fuel cam and it works great.1250 on the EGT at 7,000 R's all day. I fully plan on it for my GTV. But the day will be while, since I have a lot more work to do on the car.

But it will be with the soft lines, and a modified pump that tries to deliver 12-12.5:1 WOT all the time.

Should be a fun project.
