On the line's of John's thread- what class are you all running at the autocross??
I'll probably be running our gold GTV (the turbo left the building a few years ago), in class C.
George, are you moving up to B this year?
I think John Hoard's GTA is in D or E, since he does not run street tires.
If you don't know, please review the AROC-USA comp code to find out your point totals.

Eric,
This is very much appreciated... It will in fact be my wife's first ever autocross, and she will probably not do one again until the next convention. I sure want this to be a fun experience for her, as a confusing one would be a real turn-off for her. She's been saying for a while that she would like to try "going around the cones", so she's looking forward to it. I'm also one of those who does an autocross once a year, but I'm going to try to change that.
Best regards,

Enrique,
Bobsiopener and myself will be hitting a bunch of events this year (personal schedules permitting). We'll probably be at Northern NJ, Southern Jersey, and Philly Region SCCA events. It would be great to see you there!
From what I've seen, all the regions are happy to have novices. Philly, being the biggest of those 3, offers a bunch of really top notch drivers for novice instruction.

I'd sure love to join you guys... Please place a post in the NJ forum of the BB when you guys are going to go, as I know of at least one other NJ member that would like to join us.
We're driving out to Ohio tomorrow, and will be there for a couple of weeks, and I'm planning to join the Lexington guys for their autocross. The last time I autocrossed was at the convention, last year in Tulsa!
Best regards,

Well....we haven't decided what classes we'll be in for the convention. We may undo or add some changes to make the cars fit where we want them. But in SCCA we all run DSP. More so to run together than having all the cars officially DSP. Bud for instance could probably run E Stock. I would imagine we KY folk will be spread across several classes for the convention.
Best Regards,
John M

Sounds great! So far as I've seen, the Alfa's are a pretty rare sight at Autocrosses. It would be great to get a chance to converse as well. I was actually able to meet you for a split second while at the NYC Tech Session, but Giuseppe was in the middle of hustling me up to see his racecar.
Anyway, I'll try my best to remember to post something in the NJ forum. What will you be autocrossing in Lexington? A spider? the Verde? a 164?

Odds would be very good that you would be in class C.
But, for those who need to be reminded- read the rule book here: http://www.aroc-usa.org/community/AROCCompCodeMay05.pdf
Starting on page 14, you can add up the points for your car. Cam points are kind of a pain, since the number of choices has gone up a lot. Just choose one that is close, and that will have to do.
Once you add up all the points, you know what class you are in.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do this before you get to the convention!!! It saves a TON of time in Tech. I always have a spreadsheet filled for Ines and myself, just to keep the time short.
And we will be asking that you put the class on your car.

The '74 Spider... I would be autocrossing the '84, which is my favorite, but I blew the head gasket a few weeks ago and we haven't done anything with it yet. (It's at the shop.) All Spiders are in OH right now, but the '84 will be in NJ as soon as we fix the head gasket and whatever caused this...
Best regards,

We'll have it figured out before the convention. We are bringing both our spiders up and the wife will autocross one of them.

The one that threw me was the high compression pistons but sense my S-4 cam with 10.4 cr pistons and my new ones are 10.5 I did not add the 5 points.
I added my points for Time Trials and for the Autocross and it totals differently? I guess there is less advantage in Autocrossing with the modifications?
TT = 223 points gets me at the top of Class C
Autocross = 208 points gets me at the top of Class C

Murray,
I hate to tell you this buddy, but standard CR is 10:1 in the series 4, and 10.5:1 are very definitely in the racing category... I think you may also want to look at those point agains, as I'm positive that for the autocross you are at the very least a solid class B... (Same for TT, although there you are actually very close to class A there. ) Not to worry though, your competition in Class B is just George. And trust me, you've got a lot more engine than George. (He's bound by SCCA rules so he's got quite a suspension, but the engine internals are stock.) So all you have to do is do what he does, but just press the accelerator a little more before you get across the finish line!
Best regards,
Enrique
P.S. Be glad there is no penalty for VVT on the exhaust cam. The club never even envisioned this, so it's not in the Competition Code!

Hi Enrique,
It's great that you will be coming to our event this Sunday. You do know that it is at a different location, right?. The University of KY Commonwealth Stadium. Here's the course map. This will also be posted on the SCCA website tomorrow http://www.ckrscca.org/ and... check there for directions to the event.
If your schedule permits, plan on a casual dinner with the group right after the event...

Man, I wish I could make it to the convention autocross, I rarely get to run against other Alfas.
The last few years I've been running in DSP in the San Francisco region with limited success. I have not run in a while and am thinking about changing classes to STS2 (STS for 2 seaters or 2+2s). For some reason the civics in STS are much faster than the Miatas in STS2.
I just bought a new set of Azenis and am hoping for the best.

Some success in DSP? Nice!
Are you sure you'd be in STS2? The SCCA Solo Catagories paper said that STS2 is "for sports cars with 2 seats and
normally aspirated engines up to 1.9L". It may not matter much though, depending on how religiously your region adheres to the rules.
You picked up the RT615s? What size? I had thought about them, but my lack of experience and inherent cheapness swayed me towards the Ecsta MX as a solid tire but not so expensive that I'm wasting money as I learn.
