Erik-

The reason for NASCAR's success=TV!!! TV has created a "Soap Opera on Wheels"! TV "ratings" rule! If the ratings 'demand' it NASCAR will comply...

MALDI, you're right. But every year in ALMS there are 1 or 2 of the categories that are not exactly full - it doesn't really matter however; the other categories always more than make up for this. LMP2 has never been this good!

I do miss the GT1 wars though. ALMS seem to piss off the teams with their 'arbitrary' rules and they pull out.

Jan,
I assume your fav is Montoya. Did you happen to hear his quote when asked what it was like to drive a Nascar for the first time.

"like driving a school bus"

Yeah, I heard that one
And also about "technology is zero"
But I still like the ferocity of all cars banging at 180 mph

To each his own I guess but I just think Nascar is totally boring unless it's on a road course, then I will actually watch those giant beasts lean and roll. It's kind of fun then. Other than that give me ALMS, CART and F1. Even though F1 is not what it was to me in the mid/late 80's and early 90's when I was going to races.

Yep, me too. NASCAR puts me to sleep...200 300 500 laps! Round & round & a round---you've got to be kidding me! Those guys bang into each other just to keep themselves awake & try not to think about the fact they're 286 laps from the BATHROOM!

I like NASCAR on the two road courses also. It's like the old days, when all race cars drifted and slid around corners. Not as much passing, but I bet those guys get a good work out with those long-throw (compared to other race cars) shifters.

As I've said before, I like any type of road racing more than any type of oval track racing. But did you guys see the Gran Prix of Spain today. I don't recall seeing a single pass on the track after the first pass. I hear people say that watching 500 laps on an oval puts them to sleep. But for God's sake, can't F1 do something to encourage closer racing with more passing?

Erik

Unfortunately, the GP of Spain, today was only a 'race' to the first turn...once Massa won 'that', it was done! I did watch to the end, but it was difficult.

One 'up-side': Learned that the rookie Hamilton's got balls-as-big-as-a-Buick!
He's fast & fearless! F1 needs more like HIM!

Regards
