Nascar don't float

Anybody ever watch the prerace or postrace shows where they "interview" the drivers?? Those guys make even our president sound intelligent!!
"I was goin fasur den he waus, den he heat sos I spune" As Schumacher said when asked if he would like to "race" in Nascar, his reply was "what for". Says it all.

Being from New York City, I thought I was the only person who thought "Wawd" sounded weird! Do all you folks from the 'hills of Virginee' talk like he does???

Naw. I'm from the Eastern part of Va, Nothern Neck to be exact or Norvern Nek as we say, you know down by the Rivah. Wawd is from South Boston, not in the mountains either but it's close to Carolina.

Of course its the most viewed racing series in the ONLY the USA Because its the only racing CRAP they AIR!!!! trust me bros if a second race chanel ever came up with just everything but NASCRAP I mean FLAMS,BTCC,WTCC,DTM,ITC, 24hrs,ect,ect. NASCAR and INDY CAR aren't alone in this... I don't think CHAMP cars race in the wet either when they are on oval tracks.

Visability would be terrible on ovals and they would have to add windsheild wipers to the car.

I was just being a wise a$$...I actually lived in No. Virginia(Alexandria)--back in the 70s for a few years. I did hear some very unusual 'accents', tho...I met a girl(& her brother)from Staunton, Va.--it took a while to figure out what they were saying--but it was a 'dramatically proper(?)' way of speaking!

I hate to say it, but you are simply wrong about NASCAR being the least favorite. Whether we like the racing or not, you can't deny that Nascar has been a commercial success. Most Americans simply don't understand road racing. Road racing does not draw the crowds or viewership that Nascar does, and probably never will. For the most part, American's don't have the attention span to watch an event where they can't see the entire track.

...and since Speed changed their programming mix to heavily feature Nascar, their ratings have gone up.

Erik-

I agree & 'disagree' w/you! NASCAR certainly has been a huge success...the recent drop in attendance/viewership over "phantom yellow flags" will most likely pass.

The "can't see the entire track" theory is iffy. Even at some NASCAR tracks you can't see all of the track---some might say that a lot of the NASCAR 'attendees' are too drunk to see most of anything!

The success of NASCAR is a result of 'hype' & promotion! Plus, that in NASCAR you have 'rolling billboards'...advertising is a major factor! When was the last time you saw an ALMS promo in a road-side convenience shop? Can you buy a F1 team T-Shirt in Sears? Obviously this is a USA 'thing', but it seems everyone is 'pimping' NASCAR!

For me, Road Racing(WRC too) is the only TRUE racing! Ovals are for horses & Roger Bannister! And even THEY "run-in-the-rain"...

It should be noted, that Fox owns Speed Channel & Fox televises the NASCAR races. So Speed Channel's 'overboard' hyping of NASCAR is just more 'pimping' for Fox ratings!

I would argue that the advertising dollars and promotional items are a result of their success, not the cause of it. The fact that you can buy NASCAR t-shirts at Sears isn't the reason for their success, it is a result of their success. I'm willing to concede that seeing the entire track may be only a small part of NASCAR's draw. But I would add that having practically every car on the lead lap and bunched up late in the race is good for the average fan. NASCAR rules certainly cause this to happen. Let's hope the yellows thrown for phantom debris don't make a complete mockery of the series.

With that said, all my favorite race cars turn left. If anyone wants to prove how interested they are in road racing, come on up to Road America in a week and a half. Sorry I don't have any t-shirts!

If I may add fuel to the fire:

1) NASCAR fans criticize F1 because it is a parade with no passing. Who ever qualifies first has a better than even chance to win. Two years ago Schumacher (at Monza?) qualified 4th and won but never passed a car on the track (it was all done with pit strategy). At least with NASCAR there is on-track passing!

2) Check out ALMS lately? LMP1 basically has two Audi R10s that WILL win and maybe a Lola or two that will finish mid pack. GT1 will have two Corvette C6Rs and nothing else! This is racing?!? At least with NASCAR there is a full field at each race. (Granted in ALMS LMP2 and GT2 have been exciting, recall the GT2 finish at Sebring!)
