104 Octane Boost Giulietta info wanted

I am trying to compile some history and info on this car. I would
really appreciate anyone willing to scan or copy articles, ads, and photos
they may have. Might even buy original copies if I have to.

Thank you !!!

The old Alfa Ricambi performance catalogue has a B&W photograph of Tom Mankin's car, as well as a drawing on the back cover.

You mean this one? I don't have any info on it but I found this picture on a Datsun roadster site. He is leading Joe Hauser in a 1600 roadster back in 1988 (I think)

Wil,

Can you provide the url for that photo?

As an aside. There is a factory prepped Datsun Roadster that won
a runoffs Championship about 100 miles from here. Been on jack
stands in an attached garage and not even dusted for 20 years. Owner won't even talk to anyone about it

Actually, that's a 1300 in Tom Mankin's car and Col. Joe is driving a SPL 310 (1500) in the G Production race. You can tell because of the Spitfires and Reichenbach's X 1/9 in the background. Those were the days!

About a year after this car raced, someone (Robustelli?) made a 1/43rd scale hand made model of the car.

G production yes, however its a 1600 (SPL) roadster. Its still being raced by Bill Wessel and still does very well. There isn't much info at all on the Alfa here http://www.datsun.org/fairlady/JoeGallery2.htm but there are some cool old pics.

It sounds like Joe lost a dizzy bolt at sometime in the race and went backward from the first pic I posted. He was the mechanic who failed to properly tighten said bolt. The picture was taken at the runoffs at Road Atlanta 1988, lap 2.

I'd love to find out more about the "lost roadster" thats near you. There are so few left that seeing one race is pretty rare. That said there will be several race cars at the California Speedway two weekends from now. Adam Corrola has one of the factory lightweight cars built by BRE (although Pete Brock denies the existance of it, Jon Morton says he and another BRE member built it, did some testing and parked it on the side of the shop for years.) Adams car is being run by Jon Morton, and another lightweight will be there unfinished. There will be atleast 1 1967.5 (first of the 2 liter cars) in full race form running as well as possibly the second lowest serial # car (SRL311-0004) that is also a race car.

Will,

I didn't realize until now that you were into Datsuns. Guess you are the guy with both sides of the aurgument covered

Anyway Datsun's, Alfa's, whatever. A lot of production based cars with serious amateur race history are still hidden away covered with dust. I really enjoy mine ( http://thiscrazygarage.com/104OctaneJJ.html ), and love the stories and history associated with cars like the Datsun pictured.

I'll check on the Datsun again sometime, and give you a call if I'm not thrown out.

Curtis,
Thats one sweet set of headers you built. Your car looks sweet as well. I wish my racecar looked as nice as yours. Your E type is also very sweet (someday I will have one)
My roadster is my first car, and I have built it from the ground up. Here is a poorly updated site for it. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/737676/1 I'll be honest, I do find it to be more fun the the Alfa, but its a different creature all together. The Alfa is good for looking good while going where ever I'm going, the roadster grabs attention due to its ungodly loud exhaust, and its unassuming speed till it runs out of gear (provided I can actually put the power down out of a corner and not drift out.)

I will see if I can find more info on your car from the Datsun side of things. The website that hosts the pics I posted might have more someplace.

Will
