Yeah whatever . I still think you are overly excited about 10 cylinder engines.

And ofcourse the current v8's will pass the 3.0 v10's power output, just like the v10's passed the previous engines, etc. Ofcourse the FIA could (or already have) kill or the fun by arbitory restrictions.

I'm looking forward to 2 ltr engines in say 2012
Pete

Yes and there's a good reason, tolerance limit/vibration headakes witch will not change since such is the nature of the V10 and V8s.

The 72 degrees V10 enteres the critical area in terms of vibrations between 12,000 rpm and 14,000 rpm while the 90 degrees V8s from approximately 16,000 rpm and continues to climb from there.

At 20000 RPMs a V10 can be smooth and rev without headakes, wereas a V8
without the re-inforcement (witch makes it just as heavy/heavier) would be like a nuclear bomb ready blow.

V8s and V12s are compromised architectures from a certain point, wereas V10s are not.

The V8s are:
limited to 19000 RPMs by FIA + NO exotic materials (banned) + NO exotic fuels (banned) + NO variable intake systems (banned) + NO variable exhaust systems (banned) + NO variable valve control systems (banned).

Acording the the Renault folks at blog.renault, a curent engine evolution will give about 4 HP extra, wereas before the limitation rule, you could get even 20 HP extra form an new evolution.

The V8s will replaced in 2010 to my knowledge. The way things are going they'll never go near the V10s.

I was there for the Toyota exhibition. They hardly did any laps on the track, you can't consider that an actual all-out effort. If anything, with an actual practice session, the Toyota car should have been able to beat the Champ car's time.

The F1 car was sure amazing to watch though!

I would like to see the FIA just set engine size ... then manufacturers can choose the number of cylinders they want.

Then we would return to real F1 again.

I love the idea of a little variety between engine builders. Maybe the FIA could set a displacement limit for engines with turbos and have another limit for NA cars.... Now that would be interesting. I'm probably asking a little too much...

All the other really advanced systems, such as variable intake/exhaust, active suspension and ABS would take away from the sport. Heck, I dont even like traction control. Races shouldn't be decided by who has the most sophistocated stability management system. I wanna see drivers on the track, not a computer tech.

As a fan of just about any type of racing, I wanna see not only the best technology, but the best drivers/driving. There is no doubt that Michael Schumacher was a phenomenal race car driver, but i think his scietific/analytical skills won him more races than his good driving. I would say that Kimi and Fernando are blessed with better skills behind the wheel, but Michael was leaps and bounds ahead when it came to accomplishing things outside of the car, ie development and research.

I had a football coach that once told me that you can win a lot of games in the offseason, before you set foot on the field. I believe that was Schumi's gameplan.

I think this season will be the death of the pragmatist driver in F1, and a rebirth of the more skillful/talented driver. You can see in the onboard shots of Kimi's hands how smooth he is, and while this is definately the product of a good foundation left my Michael, you have to admit that the nickname "the Iceman" is appropriate, both for his cool and mistake-free driving, and his post-race press confrences.

Just to throw in my two cents: I would rather see Massa out front for Ferrari. I get the feeling he is hungrier than Kimi. I'll root for the Fin the day I see him cry with joy at winning a gran prix like Massa has.

Well I'd like that too, and slicks with grippy compunds and active suspensions.
Right now F1 is moving twards a spec serie.
