I know many sanctioniing bodies don't care, it's one of the frustrating aspects of racing w/different groups/geography. But I read thru SOVREN's rules recently, and they had an interesting approach: Pick which PERIOD rules you prep to, SCCA of FIA, but you have to go all the way with one or the other, no cherry picking. They are a very picky group, very rigid. But maybe this could be an opening someone could try with other clubs, "here are the FIA homologation rules, how could I not be period correct if I adhere to them" argument. Of course by now, most "vintage" racers are a melange of bits, pieces, and rules, so it is hard to prep to FIA, so let's just all go to Chicago and have fun with our Alfas however they're prepared

Amen, Wil.

You can't help but notice a little "engineer" in every racer. And, on race day we all seem to find someone with whom to dice, regardless of preparation.

Ken, the problem is that with some groups, you may not be able to run at all. That was the issue with the original post regarding CVAR. They are suggesting that if a 2L engine never came in a 2-headlight car, you aren't welcome to race at all. It's hard to find someone to dice with if you can't get on the track!

When you live in St. Louis (like me), your vintage race options are very limited. It would be nice to be able to run CVAR, VSCDA and SVRA. Even then, my nearest tracks are over 5-6 hours towing.

Erik

I think I found all of the GTA, GTA Jr, and GTAm document numbers. That being said, I am a little surprised that there was only one homologation form filed for the GTA Jr. I would expect to see one filed at the time it was first released, and then at least one later on. I think the narrow angle head, slide throttle injection, and 13" Campy's were used on the GTA Jr after it had been raced for some time.OldAlfaGuy
Hi OldAlfaGuy,

I had a look in my copy of 'GTA' written by Maurizio Tabucchi in 1994 and published by Giorgio Nada Editore.
For the GTA 1300 Junior Gruppo 2 I found a couple of homologation forms:

nr. 1557 for chassis 775.001 and engine AR 00559
nr. 1557/1/1E for chassis 775.900 lhd and 780.001 rhd
nr. 1557/2/2E for chassis 776.167 lhd and 780.056 rhd
nr. 1557/3/1V for all vehicles of the type GTA 1300 Junior
nr. 1557/4/2V for all vehicles idem
nr. 1557/5/3E for all vehicles idem
nr. 1557/6/3V for all vehicles idem
nr. 1557/7/4V for all vehicles idem
nr. 1557/9/5V for all vehicles idem
nr. 1557/10/6V for all vehicles idem
nr. 1557/11/7V for all vehicles idem
nr. 1557/12/8V for all vehicles idem

Ciao, Olaf

Now that we have all the numbers for the FIA papers for the respective cars, how do we go about getting the actual papers for the models we are interested in?

IMSA Camel GT TU spec search

CVAR allows one to compete under any recognized rule set from '72 or earlier. they have seen their way past the 2-headlight/2-litre issue, but I am still reluctant to bring the car to 2400lbs from it's svelte 2062lbs. So, I am looking for the IMSA Camel GT TU class rules in hopes the weights are somewhat less cumbersome. Anyone have a copy of these for 1971 or 1972. The GTV's were definitely run, in 1.75 and 2.0 litre form, I just have yet to find a wt limit.

It would be nice to gather together the homologation papers we have and put them on the AlfaBB as a central resource. This would save everyone a lot of time and effort. I do not believe the FIA enforces their copyright on older papers (or perhaps the Italian sporting authority holds the copyright for the Alfa papers, or even Alfa itself?)
