I don't think there is a single F1 fan that doesn't think that banning traction control is a good idea.

I don't think it's a good idea.
Why ?!
More caution from drivers = less overtaking
Same with:
groves vs. slicks
narrow cars (of today) vs. wider cars
passive suspensions vs. active suspensions
All these promise to put the driving back, but it result was boredom.
So get ready for even more boredom.

I beg to differ...
SLicks and wider cars, reliyng less on Aero grip, Allows cars to follow more closely behind each other allowing drivers to actually set up a pass without the car getting all squirly on them.
The absence of tractionion controle allows for driver mistakes... i.e. I believe it was the second round of 1994 when Senna spun it around on corner exit while chasing Michael.

Formula 1 2007
Have wondered about launch control and traction control on Formula 1 cars, are they two different systems or the same system with different labels?? I know this probably "beating a dead horse" but I would like to see the return of some kind of "stick shift", operated with the right or left hand. Would not need a clutch pedal but I think the finger operated shifters on the steering wheel are too easy. Like WRC cars have, no clutch pedal but the driver has to take his hand off the wheel to shift. It would make for more exciting racing and great drivers with "lesser" developed cars might actually be able to win!! Kind of tired of it always being just the top three teams/cars/drivers in the winners circle!!

Don't forget that if there's less aero, the brake zones will be greatly increased as well. Thus once that 'setup' occurs, there will be more room for pass to actually happen. Who knows how much of this will be offset with additional mechanical grip, but I think it would be an improvement.

Slicks and wider cars and movable balasts were banned to "put the driver back" and improve spectacle. Instead it made races boring.
Without TC overtaking will become even less posible.
In the spectacle day there was:
- ground effects aerodynamics (until 1983)
- wider cars
- slicks
- movable balasts
- active suspension since 1987
- witch was expanded/builded upon to become Active Ride
Now these were good enough for Lauda, Piquet, Prost, Senna and Mansell to provide us with high quality spectaculous racing, but were banned to:
- to "put the driver back"
- impove spectacle (what a laugh)
- cut costs (what a laugh)
- improve safety (many time it did the opposite)
What we got were accidents (some fatal) and boredom (the prevailance of pit strategy vs. actual in race overtaking)
Now those cars with their , today banned, aids were esentially slower (especially in the corners) and the G loads were adolescent's play by today's standards.
Sorry increased boredom and regress for the sake of phony nostalgia is not atractive to me.

... and the boredom mounts. The only suspense now is when will Massa make his next error, and what will it be?

When a rookie makes you mess up....i think that you probally need help....Ferrari needs Schumi to come back and train the drivers....and to be there to keep them calm....Massa shouldn't be making those mistakes.....it was still McLaren's day, I agree

Agreed. Though it was clear Kimi had to keep it cool to avoid blowing his dodgy engine and all the pressure was on Massa to deliver.
One thing that I cannot understand is why can't Ferrari produce a good start system? It's always been like that, since teams introduced self starting technology (4 or 5 years ago?), Ferrari's have always been pretty average getting off at the green light.
