On to the future...

If any changes in technical rules could let us return the the kind of racing displayed by Gilles Villeneuve and Rene Armoux on that awsome video I just watched, it needs to be done.



That blows NASCAR out of the water. With racing like that, any open wheel series could reclaim millions of fans and not even resort to the sort of WWF/Jerry Springer style commercialization that NASCAR employs.

But really, why in the year 2006 do we still have two competing open wheel series in the US? Oh well, guess I'll keep watching lunch time TV on SPEED for great road racing action.

Did you see any Champ Car races this year? They were all pretty damn good.

And with the new car/aero package next year its only going to get better.

No traction control here.

F1 is never going to see those days again. The big manufacturers use F1 as a display of their technical prowess and would kick up a storm if faced with technology limiting rules (as they've done so often in the past).

So, the FIA will do a little here, a little there but never tackle the sport in the serious manner that it needs to create the exciting racing of past years.
