Willow Track Record
I have been seraching all over for production Alfa Romeo track records at Willow Springs. My searches have lead me to this...
AlfaBB member, Richard Beard currently has the all time track record for a production (non-tube frame) Alfa Romeo at Willow Springs International Raceway with a time of 1:35:2. Granted, the track is 2 seconds faster than it was before they made it wider, it's still a very very very fast time. Good Job. All you need to do now is an Alfa Club Time Trial and you are in their books! Let's make some changes for next time and shoot for 33's in November.

I went back again a month later, and in a race on bad tires recorded a 1:34.202.
The car is perfectly set-up and allows me to be full throttle from turn 5 all the way to turn 1.
Richard
p.s. If anyone has heard of a better ALFA lap time please share.

November 22-23 we will be at Willow Springs racing in the Big Bore Bash. There are slated to be about 30 cars in every run group!!!
It will be alot of fun, because the regulars in the porsche category haven't logged any low 1:34's. I think it is about time for some payback for the Porsche-Alfa Challenge.

WOW!!!
Hey Richard.....
Sounds really amazing but:
What gear?
What RR ratio??
I remember being able to go 3/4 thorttle with a 4.56 RR and a GTA box BUT I had a slipping LSD so I had to be easy otherwise I would start spinning the RR RH tire.
Still amazing time. Anthony has already stated I should bring the Green Spider and help you guys beat the P cars. I am curious as I I go just to embarras you all up there.....
What air-fuel jets are you using? 45 or 48 Webwer? Timming??
Thanks,
Eliseo
I have the pictures and letter of the Felix the Cat I mentioned, will send this week to Antonio!

Gear would be a GTA close ratio transmission with a .85 fifth
Rear-end ration would be 4.56:1
as for the carbs, i believe that the jets are 55's
with 45 mm webers on them and about 28 degrees on timing
however the motor isn't a big issue, it is putting out 190 hp at the flywheel with 160 ft. lbs. However it is the shock, and suspension package which allow me to catch up with a 2.2L porsche that was running slicks in the corners.

55 Webers?? Are those available???? I think you are confused....??
Maybe Anthony could clarify.....
I agree that suspension is what makes it stick!
Thanks,

eliseo,
i dont remember the full specs on richards motor but it has 45 dcoe's, 4.56 lsd, and a gta short-close box with .85 5th gear.
this is a suspension car more than horsepower. if you looks at the underside of the car you will see why he is able to stand on the gas from turn 5 to turn 1 at willow. he just lifts to 6000 rpm in 5th for turn 9. oh yeah, it has has huge 225's on the rear as well.
one thing that drives me nuts is how he goes through a set of tires a day at willow springs. i have never seen this before, he sure is driving the piss out of that little car.
i will let ou know when the $tuff you are mailing me gets here.

Anthony is right, i messed up.
Anyway, he is also right about the suspension, that car puts out similar hp and torque numbers as anthony's car. However the suspension on the blue car is what makes it go. I can turn about 4 seconds a lap faster than Anthony. And at a track like Buttonwillow, we showed that the car could turn 7 seconds a lap faster. It is just SUSPENSION. That is the only difference.

I actually meant it more as a joke (he wouldn't tell fellow racers!), but since you're asking...
I am redoing the suspension on my 1974 GTV in the spring. It will be used on the street plus some autox and track events. So far, I am thinking of W&D race springs (I think it is easier to put spacers in to raise the car if it is too low than the other way around) and his rear sway bar and adjustable control arms.
Bilstein shocks and new bushing round things out.
Am I heading in the right direction? Any other suggestions? I also want to get 14 X 7 Panasports later (I love the look of your Junior). A picture of your car is my wall paper.
Thanks.......

i dont have a problem saying whats in the cars, everyone who comes to the races sees it anyways. i'll list what has been changed on the car from stock
richards car:
extended front spindles, all bushings are replaced with solid bushings (front and rear), fully adjustable aluminum koni shocks (all 4), 1200 lbs. front springs, heim joints where permitted, rear suspension has adjustable trailing arms, autodelta sliding block, 200 lbs. front springs, aluminum t-bar, 205/60-14 front tires,225/50-14 rear tires.
my car:
adjustable spring buckets, solid bushings (front and rear), 1200 lbs. springs (front), koni "red" shocks, panhard rod, 200 lbs. rear springs, leightweight steel t-bar, 195/60-14 tires all the way around.
we both have the same front sway bar, it's one we make that mounts behind the motor. neither of us run a rear sway bar - it was causing too much oversteer. yeah, the 14x7 panasports with the 17mm offset works well on the cars. if you are gonna run the car in the street you may want to go with the konis because they are softer which will be better on the car and your back and you can always adjust them if you want them stiffer.
cool, i dont even have a pic of my car on my desktop. you should post yours on the off topic thread "what is your desktop", i am curious to see which picture you have up.
note the stuff done to both our cars are race cars and are never driven on the street.

Anthony,
Both Alan Ward and Dave Rugh (I was considering his springs too) and EB spares recommend Bilsteins, that's why I was planning on going that way. I don't want too stiff! This car will see most of it's time on the street so I don't want to get too extreme. Thanks for your suggestions.
I posted my desktop from work in the off topic thread. The picture I use at at home was from one of the BB photo galleries. The car is under a tent.
