Since Ferrari unveiled their new car for this season and the first public test will begin tomorrrow, I thought it would be appropriate to start a new thread for the 2006 F1 season. Here is a pic of the new Ferrari "248 F1" that will win this year's titles.

Hello Delta,
I agree that is the car.
After reviewing all the available photos of F1 cars for 2006 I am amazed at how complicated the bodies are. The designers certainly have created a lot of tabs, airfoils, barf boards and diverters to cause the air to help them. It is no longer a science of preventing the air from hurting you. Now you have to grab it and make it work for you.
I can't wait for Bahrain (just under 40 days) as the first race should tell a lot.

Will Ferrari come back with an upfront victory ?
Can an Orange car win anything ?
Will Cosworth be as good as it once was ?
How good is Fernando - really ?
Will 11 teams vs 10 make any difference ?
Has Bidgestone bit off more than they can chew ?
Can the Russians win - first time out ?
Will Rubens shine now that he is in the sun ?

It certainly looks like an exciting first part of the year. Hope it stays that way
thru the year.

I can't wait for this season to begin.The highlight of my year is watching the races on a Sunday and dong nothing else

Should be there for the Italian GP in September so it is going to be a good season for me not matter what. Formula 1 and Italian madness can't get any better.

I wonder how the V8 engines will preform this year compared to the V10's, the cosworth V8's supposedly revv to 22k

I was just told by my father that this morning on Rai they showed Motorcycle racing's Valentino Rossi driving the new Ferrari "248 F1" on the track and taking a little spin.
Would anyone know if he's just a test driver or will he be replacing Rubens?

Officially he is neither... Felipe Massa replaced Rubens.

"Mark Webber admits he is surprised that MotoGP Champion, Valentino Rossi, has accepted a place in Ferrari's three-day test, which begins on Tuesday.
Rossi will be joining the Italian team on Tuesday in Valencia to partake in the pre-season testing.

The Yamaha driver has been behind the wheel of a F1 car many times before but these tests will be the first time he will be sharing the track with other drivers, no doubt a far greater challenge than his previous private driving sessions."

Rossi did test today and spun it. I think he's going to have a very difficult time breaking into F1, but, then again, Ferrari wouldn't be wasting their time with him just for photo ops.

I'm guessing you guys heard Montoya is already saying he won't wait for Ron Dennis to make up his mind and is looking around for anther team. He's mentioned Ferrari, Renault and even Williams. I know Todt has said he'd rather have Raikkonen in the past, but I've always had a sense that Montoya would do well for Ferrari.

Looks like a very competitive year again. Renault,Honda look strong along with Ferrari. If Kimi has signed with Toyota already than Montoya might have a chance at Ferrari. More likely Renault. If Honda can be reliable look for a wdc in Button or Rubens this year. My prediction.

I doubt Ferrari would consider montoya because he tried to take out Schumi to many times. He's got a hot head and doesn't think before he acts.
If Schumi retires after this year i love love to see Fisichella or Trulli behind the wheel. It has been way to long that ferrari hasn't had a Italian driver.

Depends how you see it.
Remember Hill/Schumacher in Adelaide
Remember Villeneuve/Schumacher in Estoril
He gets away with everything...
People didn't wanna see Senna in a Ferrari neither.
Could have been a great combination though
Just like it would be with Montoya!
Remember Gilles vs Didier.

In my opinion Rossi is the ideal replacement for Schumacher. It's a question of communicating confidence in a manner that a team feeds off it. Rossi is a supertalent on two wheels but more important is his immense and intense attitude towards racing and testing.....even if he would spin off on a frequent basis at the beginning it probably will not break his spirit.

Anyone within Ferrari would do their utmost to help Rossi win a race so the team wouldn't sink
away after retirement of Schumacher. Rossi is a legend in Italy and Schumacher is seen as
a racing driver who wins in a Ferrari. It will cause quite a stir if Rossi would drive for Ferrari
and even more so as the great duo Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger.

Helas the tyrerules have changed so I would expect the top ten on the grid with low fuel load
and turning it into a sprintrace much like season 2003/2004. Backrunners probably do a long
stint and probably we hear teams talking about graining, fuelload and pitstrategy.....
I kinda liked the tyresrules in 2005 where drivers/teams had to preserve their rubber and testing on friday was crucial to fork out tyrewear-/performance. Non of that in 2006.....

Sucks that it starts at 3:00AM on the west coast. Looks like I'll be sleeping most of the day once the race is over.

Speed TV is carrying it in the SF Bay area. Their schedule shows a replay at 0930. I'll watch it then instead of 0300. Just have to make sure I don't log on to the PC or watch any sports related news and find out who won.
