Eric, Consider also you want the most reliable car for your first year or two of racing. If you go through an SVRA or SCCA school it's nice not to put time on an expensive engine, and you're more likely to finish the one or two day school. You'll be quick either way, autocrossers usually do well on the track, but there's nothing slower than the tow back to the paddock. A lower compression engine is not only more reliable, but far cheaper to run. We paid $6.25/gal for fuel at the Glen.

That is very key to my engine build choices. Still gotta be SPICA

Jim has taught me a lot about assembling a motor that can spin to 8000rpm, and I know I won't find cams to do that. I'll have to find a MSD that will limit my engine speed to 7500 rpm.

Thankfully, the engine is not as much in question, except the 1750 possibility.

The other good thing, with our driving schedule, I'll probably have a year on the car before I do any wheel to wheel driving. Gives me a lot of confidence in the car that way.
