R.I.P. Bridgehampton

(a/k/a The Bridge) "google earth" is simply amazing for its aerial views (satelite imagery of most everywhere on the planet, although I've only looked at the US and the resolution for rural areas is not especially good so that Lime Rock, Watkins Glen and Summit Point are not clear, and the imagery is probably about 18 to maybe 24 months old as best as I can tell).

the point of this is for those who remember The Bridge (think "Double 500's" from the late 50's and early to mid 60's, Trans Ams and even Can Ams in the late 60's through the mid 70's, in short, world class sports car racing), it is long gone and now condos and a golf course but parts of the old track can still be seen such as most of the (very long, very fast and down hill for the second half and with a kink -- scary at speed) front straight, Millstone turn (the very fast right hander at the bottom of the front straight, and the short straight into echo valley are still pretty evident (or at least when the imagery was captured, if thats the right term). I think part of the "light bulb" a/ka/a the caroussel can also be made out

... gone but not entirely forgotten...

and check out google earth

the Bridge

Hey Griff-
Here is a pic of the Bridge taken about 5 years ago when the dreaded golf course work was just underway. At the time there was talk about the track being saved (due to environmental concerns with the golf course). It's a shame, it was a great track. I had the privaledge of driving it a couple of times (once during Tropical Storm Danielle...even camped in the paddock!)
