AMB Transponder

Hi,

Which one of the two transponders should I get: Personal TranX260 Rechargeable Transponder $365.00 or Personal TranX260 Direct Powered Transponder $325.00.

I do not have an alternator or generator in my racecar and am worried it might take power from the battery out.

AMB TranX260 Transponder Direct Powered
Operating time: active with external power
Power consumption: 12 VDC / 0.04 A
Numbers available: unlimited
Max. speed: 180 mph (300 km/h) <- THIS WILL NOT BE AN ISSUE!!!
Transponder position: max. height 2 ft (60 cm)

I only have one car as well so I can just install it and don’t worry about it.

Eric Wood; Which one do you have?

Thanks,

Eliseo, get the direct powered one. That way you don't have to worry about turning it on and off. I power mine directly from the coil. When the master is on, the transponder is on. I also do not run a charging system. But the transponder seems to require very little power.

Anything for you, Eliseo! It draws + current from the coil, which in my car is very close. And the ground is to the coil mount.

Mine draws right from the battery when the master switch is on. I don't run an alternator, and the few times I've had the car out I've have not had to put the charger on the battery all weekend, but Ill bet there's not much juice left.

Mine's mounted as far forward as possible, it could make the difference between finishing second to last, and finishing last, in a close race. You can just see the top of it in this picture.
