Time for Speed Channel?
Perhaps it's time for me to plunk down the extra moolah, and get Speed Channel. I'm sick of missing the action.
IMHO, Speed Channel isn't that great anymore. I catch it now and then at hotels when I'm on the road, and all I see is NASCAR, and Pinks--I could care less! I remember seeing a lot more road racing from all over the globe, and some interesting historical stuff too.

SPEED sucks. However, it's really the only game in town. I have it as part of my cable TV package and would not live without it, even though there is no more WRC, historical shows about great races or auto manufacturers or anything else really good. It truly has just become the NASCAR channel...but I need it for the few shows which are good!

Almost a necessary evil then. My cable company offers it as a package with a bunch of other channels; Natl Geographic, etc. They will require a converter box--something that has kept me from "upgrading" in the past. I've got enough remotes laying around the house.

2009 should be pretty exciting, especially with the new KERS coming into effect!

SPEED isn't what it used to be, but it's what gets me my F1, so I'm grateful for it. So now for the "Who's going where?" silly season......Vettel to Red Bull? Looks like Ferrari, BMW, and McLaren are keeping their driver pairs. I look forward to seeing who lines up where in March.

Do "KERS"=Cars?
Isn't the 2009 season when they bring back 'Slick' tires(tyres)?
re: SPEED Channel---it has become pretty crappy. Way to many idiotic NASCAR shows & 'Pinks' is a huge waste of time. But it is our(USA)only way of getting F1. A friend of mine from Germany is stunned(and irritated)by how many commercials SPEED jams into the F1 broadcast! I was also 'POed' when they dropped the WRC series. The only 'up-side' to SPEED is Hobbs & company calling the GPs---even though they do it from Charlotte, NC & call it while watching it on TV at the same time we do! The only other plus for SPEED is their coverage of the ALMS races, luckily for them there were some great races this season!
Regards.

KERS = Kinetic Energy Recovery System which should be....interesting. Not sure I'm too excited about this.
Did anyone else hear something about a 'Trophy' system (vs. points) being proposed??? I think that's just silly. However, the points thing could use some touch-ups. I think a wider gap from 1st to 2nd would be nice (therefore reverting to the pre-lets-slow-down-Schumis-championships system). It might be interesting to discuss the possibility of a point being awarded for PP and/or Fastest Lap. Maybe, since Q3 doesn't really represent the absolute potential of the chassis/driver combo, a point could be given for Fastest Qual Lap vs. PP...

One of the chief worries about the KERS idea is how do you safely contain the energy if something goes wrong or the car crashes. How do they protect the driver or rescuers from accidental discharges if the car has a mighty crash? This does assume the energy stored is electrical, not bound to be heavy mechanical (flywheels, etc). Evidently at least one person has already been injured by electrical shock in the testing by touching the wrong components in one design.
I'm pretty skeptical.

another team confirmed his drivers.
Alonso have signed for the next year with Renault and with and option for 2010 (the same than 2008).
Piquet will be also in the team for 2009

I definitely AM surprised that Flav kept Nelsinho for '09...I was kinda thinking he'd be gone! Young Piquet had better have a much more productive 2009!
Yes, slicks are back in 2009, to which I say "woo hoo!"...KERS is still a question mark, isn't it? Wasn't it a McLaren tech who got zapped in the KERS developement accident?
Also, I hate to see that there are no North American races in 2009...but now the word is that in 2010, Canada AND America will be back.....lets hope so!!

Obviously it can't happen for the '09 season, but I'd love to see them eliminate all the 'aero' whiz-bangs! No more 'winglets', 'wingettes', 'Viking-Helmet-Antlers'...whatevers! It would help them cut-down on all those wind tunnel costs, too. Plus they should go back to "real" steering-wheels---garbage-can those electronic, LED adorned, concentration-interrupters! Back to basic bodies, a rear wing, a front wing/dam, the big-fat-slick-tires, & BIG-FAT-SPEEDS!
I'm dreaming, but it would be fun...
Regards.

But then, the drivers would be more like, well...drivers;
and less like video game operators. (at warp speed!)
