+1 on that.
And I also like the French GP venue. I was at the last GP at Clermont-Ferrand in 1972; amazing track--think French version of Spa Francorchamps.
But, Peter, you've got the USGP venue/date completely wrong. As it used to be, it must be Watkins Glen on the first weekend in October, at the start of the fall foliage. If proof be needed, I submit John Watson in a Brabham-Alfa Romeo exiting Turn 9 at the USGP, 2 October 1977:

Or Road Atlanta.?.? I have not been ther myself but from what I see with ALMS running there, it looks like a nice circut! Not exactly in the conditin of these new F1 tracks though. Actually... they have been running at a lot of nice and flowing venues this year! Bernie would probably want a Multi Billion dollar garage facility built first though.?.? Say... while we are using and or expanding the 700 billion bailout plan to bail out Detroit... maybe Bernie is right and we can also expand this bailout plan to cover the new garages and pay Bernie for our USGP?!?!?!?!?
Okay... sorry about that. Didn't mean to get politics/economics involved here. Pay no attention to me... if y'all ever did.

Actually, Il Vecchio's post about alternate race venues was not just a speculation as to where in the world they might be held; it was an homage to tracks that used to host an F1 GP. So while Road Atlanta's a nice track, as is Road America, there's no USGP history there.
For the USGP, returning to the past means Riverside, Sebring, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas (boy was that a mistake), Phoenix, Indianapolis and, as Peter suggested, Long Beach. But mostly it means Watkins Glen--IMHO by far the best and most beautiful race circuit to have hosted the USGP.

Does anyone have any rumors about Speed TV coverage for 2009? The other question I have is what times the races will each be held, so that I can convert that to local time.
The reason I am asking is because like most years, I will be hosting F1 viewing parties and would like to know what kind of crazy times I'll have to open my home to other fans.

1,6 HF,
Yes... i kind of gathered that. I was just thinking of nice flowing courses that, with some upgrades, might make nice venues. THe problem is... the cost of the improvements that Bernie will want. WHo is going to pay for that type of financial outlay... at any of these places?

1,6 HF is essentially "there". Mount Panorama in Australia (used for their Bathhurst touring car races) was a ringer- it has never hosted a Grand Prix, but wouldn't it be fun to watch one there? Kinda like Perscara was, I'd imagine. All the others are former Grand Prix sites.
This was just a fun wishlist. Rumours abound as to if much of the Tripoli course exists, and if so, how much is left. Almost making the cut were Monthlery in France, Perscara in Italy, Stiges in Spain, Montlhéry in France...and Watkins Glen.
Amazing thing is, so many of these tracks/road courses are still around, and so could conceivably be used...
Sorry for the hijack. Wake me when real Grand Prix racing returns...

Why would Road Alanta or Road America want to F**k-up their Tracks to Suit F1?
Face it! F1 has long abandoned the traditional road course for a "made for TV" mickey mouse" track. A few real tracks remain, including Brazil, but the rest of them have either lost their F1 dates or have modified the tracks to where they are no longer what they claim to be. I live near Road America, and would love to see a F1 race there, but Bernie would never allow it without drastic changes to the track to put in "chicanes" on every straight, and without charging the promoters much more than they could re-coup in ticket sales.
Face it, all of the "new" tracks are supported by governments wanting to make a name for themselves. It will never happen in the US or Canada.
As for the car changes, I'll check it out in the beginning of the season. But if F1 becomes another "spec" series, I'll just watch Nascrap (another series that has gone down the slope to becoming a "spec" series, as has Indycar or whatever Tony is calling it these days!) Where is the innovation?
But F1 does need to improve it's on track racing. This could be done by eliminating any electronic controls (let the best driver win), reducing downforce (ditto), and increasing horsepower (ditto again)! Of course, this will not happen, because I doubt that the majority of the current F1 "drivers" could handle this situation.

Next year... downforce may very well be reduced.?.? I know all the winglets and stuff were primarily used to direct air flow over the car and make it more slippery... but with the elimination of these, and converting back to slicks, i think we will see more drag and less downforce... combined with more mechanical grip. Given the reduction of a lot of the electronics... now it is up to the teams to make a chassis that is easily adjustable, and an engine that is competative... along with putting a competative driver in the seat. I also think that doing away with Testing during the season BUT adding an additional day to the beginning of the race week-end to test at that track, is a move in the right direction towards cutting costs. Jeeezzzz... travel alone to all of these testing venues throughout a season must cost a fortune.?.?

Road America would be great to see F1 at but Im sure its pretty far from FIA specs for run off areas. Think turn 5 where they turn left and head up hill. The only run off has barriers that you have to navigate. Also RA is in the middle of no mans land and Bernie likes big cities, thus him wanting a Grand Prix in Paris instead of Magny-Cours.
BMW testing next years chassis configurations.
EDIT: You guys should enjoy some of these pictures. Someone else on another forum I visit was in the Honda pits at the Japan GP.

Yep... and that pic of a 2008 car in suedo 2009 spec still has the side planes/winglets on upper side of the side pods. THe cars will look even cleaner than this next year from what i understand. I think barge boards are even prohibited.?.?
