Who Will Win the Indy 500 and the Coke 600?
Two huge races this weekend,
My picks:
Indy - Kanaan, but I would love to see Danica Patrick win (and she could).
Coke - Probably J. Gordon but i'd love to see Kahne win it.

Indy will be won by Tracy or Dominguez... OH WAIT! Only the slow guys race at Indy...
Champ Car for life!!! Look for Champ Car back at IMS in 06/07. GM/Toyota/Honda are bailing as I type this.

Just for the record, I've never seen an EARL race, but I have attended about 30 Champ Car/Cart races and three 500's before Tony pissed all over his dad's grave. One of my life's goals is to witness Monaco. But the 500 is still the 500, even with TG at the helm.

AlfaMale-
Danica had the best car and highest-budget team in Toyota Atantics and she couldnt win. 2 SEASONS worth of it. The only reason she is in the 500 is because Honda wrote her and Rahal a fat check. IRL is using her as a marketing ploy. If she wins it's because Honda is giving her a super engine and the IRL is looking the other way in tech inspection.
Moreover she said the other day that while she was in Atlantics she would watch IRL races and knew that ovals were where she wanted to be. Funny, I talked to her one on one at Elkhart Lake last year and she told me Champ Car was much more interesting because of it's diversity. FUNNY WHAT A CHECK FROM HONDA CAN DO.

Well, I don't really follow Indy cars, so I'm no expert. But Danica Patrick had the fastest time on Friday "carburetion day". To suggest that Honda gave her a better engine, or that her car is not legal doesn't seem plausible to me. You don't think Rahal would demand that supposed better engine for his other cars? I say give her a break. If she wins, she deserved it. And I for one would love to see women break through in motor racing. I'd love for my 9 year old daughter to take the same interest as my 6 year old son. He wants to watch SPEED while she watches American Idol. He hangs out with me in the garage while I work on my race car. She doesn't. I'm sure it has something to do with racing being a "guy thing."

Hi Erik,
I'll say it again. If Danica wins the race is fixed. Bobby Rahal left Champ Car on the eve of Long Beach nearly killing the series last year - and the IRL believe it or not is on the deathbed right now. Toyota and GM are out sooner than you think and Honda wants a unified series. Did I mention Honda has had their Champ Car 2.65L turbo on the dyno at HPD in California all this week? Wonder why....
As for Rahal, he's dirty. He was the CEO of CART for a few months, and now look where he is!! He came very close to killing the series. His reason to leave on the eve of Long Beach was because his sponsors wanted to be in the IRL. Every single sponsor on his car in 2003 stayed with CART and choose another team for 2004 making him a dirty liar. It was all Honda and Tony George. I wrote a 12 page term paper on the open wheel racing split.
Danica Patrick: 2 years in Toyota Atantic, best team, best engine, best car, best teammate, fields of 10 cars. Highest finish = 3rd. IRL needs her more than I need a "forever-rust-fix" for my NorthEastern Milano. The Indy 500 TV ratings went down faster than Alfa's North American marketshare between 1996-2004. They need something, anything.

All that may be true. Like I said, I AM NOT a student of open wheel racing. However, we are not talking about professional wrestling or boxing here. As for the dyno, wouldn't you expect them to be there? I just run an old vintage Alfa, but I will be there next week setting up my engine.
Guess it's just part of the "conspiracy theory" culture we have. It all started with the $64,000 question.

I didn't watch the 500 for a few years after George kicked CART out.
It's at least interesting now that the IRL cars are making the 200+ MPH speeds the Champ Cars did.

Well, all I can say is you're full of crappie. Bobby Rahal is the finest man in racing. Period. If Danica wins it is because she can win and deserves it. Take your male chauvinist bigotry somewhere else. Beware, your depth of knowledge (or lack ther of) is showing.

Hi Brad,
Bobby Rahal screwed over the racing world. He was the President and CEO of CART for a time in 2000. He is one of the many factors that caused CART to eventually declare bankruptcy and be bought out by OWRS. CART's race contracts call for 18 cars or they don't collect sanction fees/ race doesn't run. 2 WEEKS before Long Beach last year he withdrew from CART. Leaving the field with 17 cars. This was 2 weeks after unvieling his car and driver at a major press conference in California as well. Moreover he claimed that was a sponsor decision. Within days the sponsors on the #9 car moved with the driver to RuSport. This was a fully funded car, btw. Rahal almost killed CART just because Honda wrote him a huge check.

Crappies are the equivalent of Dale Jr fans in NASCAR first off and we are not crappies. Bobby Rahal was the man in my opinion, my dad got his autograph for me when I was a little kid. His defection was the ultimate betrayal and I'm still hurt to this day, he is a honda boy now. The winner of the Indy 500 will be Sebastian Bourdais and Danifever will end on lap 1.
