Danica Patrick will be nothing but a memory after the month of May. The IRL will go back to being the Andretti Green Racing League after Danica's month of May reign ends.

im looking forward to the indy 500. The drivers have started complaining that because this chick is more than 100 lbs lighter shes got the advantage. She does. its totally unfair to have a driver weigh 100 lbs less. On top of that shes got a rahal/letterman wallet and crew.

However, its not in the bag for her. theres a lot of courage involved in racing at 200+ mph and I think shes soft. but then again, women physically are better able to handle g-forces because of the way their plumbing is routed. I read an extensive medical report on the subject of female fighter pilots that came to that conclusion.

as for cart/irl. they are both losers because of all this bickering, backstabbing, and money grabbing. its a shame really.

Just as in horse racing and motorcycle racing, the lighter the pilot, the better. If the rules allow it, then it's fair game. I hope she wins, just to add some much-needed publicity spark to open-wheeled racing. Just think: if more women raced, then our wives would be more interested in watching and in attending race events !!!! I'm all for it !!!!

More than 100 pounds lighter? Not a chance! Danica probably weighs about 100 pounds. You think any Indy car driver is 200? Not even close. I really don't know if she can drive or not. But when everyone starts bitching about her weight and spouting conspiracy theories, you know she has some people scared. I'm with Bill, I hope she wins and gets more women interested in the sport.

As a side note, I do think that racing groups should weigh the driver and car together. That's how it is done in SCCA. Unfortunately, my car weighs the lower limit by itself. When you add my 260 pounds I have no chance of ever getting down to weight. Sure, I could drop 40 pounds on my 6'6" frame, but I have no idea where to get the other 220 pounds!

Erik

Yes, Erik, 100 lbs lighter. all of the male drivers are in perfect shape, and most of them are not very tall, but all that muscle easily weighs 200 lbs and she weighs 100. Robbie Gordon for instance weights 210.

I really disagree with you all about more women getting interested in the sport because of her. Like with my wife, unless the car emits Louis Vitton bags instead of exhaust, she's not going to watch a car race. Maybe one or two gals will think about getting into the drivers' seat, but thats about it. This chick is just turning out to be a media freak show that is detracting from the history and majesty of the indy 500. She probably will win, unless she gets taken out in a wreck. Honda wallet in hand.

Nice. If she wins its cause the IRL let her. Moreover she is just being use as a marketing ploy to draw attention away from the split/fall of Indy/GM/Toyota/Honda leaving..

A lot of drivers were no good in their feeder series. Heck, even M schumi wasn't close to the best in his feeder series.

To make assumptions based on a few Atlantic races is crap.

If she doesn't have talent, how did she save that turn one bobble?? Any of the Foyt's would have put that into the wall.

I sure hope you don't waste your afternoon watching, especially as I don't want to hear your version of the race report (either yea- she crashed, or FIXED- she won)....

There is no way she has 100lb on most of the field, more like 50. R Gordon is heavy has his ego makes his head HUGE. Rules are rules, live with it. Money doesn't mean you will win.

I will bet whatever you want that the average weight of today's starters (excluding Danica) is less than 180 pounds, probably less than 170. And if these guys need all that muscle to be successful, then Danica should be really SLOW. You can't have it both ways!

This thread only proves the success of the IRL Danica PR machine, which has completely diverted attention from the remaining drivers and the Indy 500 as the pinnacle of U.S. open wheel racing. Instead of discussing the strength of the Andretti Green team (on the pole), technical or race strategy questions, or the Penske team's chances to win another 500, we're caught up by the Danica hype. Is she a talented driver - yes, anyone that can drive Indy is, but keep in mind there are 100's of talented young drivers out there that could drive but have not been given the opportunity. Is she being given an advantage - certainly, there is nothing that the IRL, Honda, and Rahal would like more than the PR boost of a young, relatively attractive woman winning the 500, and so they are doing everything within their collective power to try to make that a reality. It is all about saving the sinking IRL and making money - remember the IRL is a business, plain and simple.

I would like to see Andretti win as a team owner. He led the most laps of any non-winner in Indy history and it would be nice to see the famous "Andretti luck" buried with the Bambino's curse.

It sure makes it a lot easier though, and without it you cannot even compete let alone win, barring the most amazing luck. Just ask all those drivers that were beating Danica last year that still don't have IRL or CART rides.

2 full seasons with the best team, biggest budget, best car, fastest teammate, etc.. 2 Full SEASONS! and all she could muster up was a few podiums.

I am not watching the 500, but I hear there are empty seats.

Does anyone remember what happened in 2000,2001, and 2002? When CART teams showed up never having touched IRL equipment and won? I believe in 2001 the first IRL regular finished 8th - a lap down.

Also Mr. Turbolarespider, remember 2002? Paul Tracy passed Helio before the yellow and they gave the race to Helio, the IRL driver. Sure, you will repond saying Tracy passed under yellow but that is untrue. There is video evidence of Tracy passing Helio on a GREEN flag track. Tony George and IMS own the rights - and withheld the video from the courts and media. Barry Green has it, Roger Penske has it, Tony George has it, few have seen it. PT won.

It was on the restart. The car in front slowed and she went up on the marbles to avoid. Then got back on the gas popping the rear out.

A rookie mistake I've seen plenty of others make before.
