Rain tire ?

Hi Guys,

What makes the best rain tire in 17”? Should I use street tires or DOT race rubber like the Victoracers with full tread or are there dedicated race rain tires?

It really depends on how deep your wallet is, and if it's wet on the whole track with no chance of drying out, or it's dry in places, wet in others.......

Hoosier has a WET DOT Radial at about $180/each, the Victoracers will be a little cheaper. If it's raining, and the track is 100% wet these are great rain tires as is. However, from what I've read, if the track is only partially wet and/or drying, it's recommended that the tread be shaved to 4 or 5 32nds.

Then there's the Goodyear Rain tires in the $250+ range.

If it's just the occasional club event, than the street tires might be the best choice.

In addition to the new radial rain tire, Hoosier has the "Dirt Stocker". This is a DOT approved, bias tire that is dynamite for autocross or race in full rain conditions. One 17'' size: P245/50D-17. This isn't my size, but I remember that 15'' rim size prices were well under $100 per tire.
