MS will start nearly last. They add times from both sessions together. Should be a fun race!

2nd qualifying isn't until 4PM pacific coast time (7PM east coast time). As he was 25 seconds back in the first session, due to problems, MS will almost certainly start near the back of the grid.

Ferrari gets money from the Italian Government ????????
Wow thats amazing. Can you produce some proof of that claim?
Ferrari does not have the biggest budget in F1. Either Toyota or Mclaren do.
The practice and qualifying sessions on Saturday were bizzare. Think about it, after all the changes to the rules put forth by the FIA, the speeds on a dry track are not slower. But the cars cost more to produce if you put the cost of all the aerodynamic work into the equation. And the tires probably cost more also. The qualifying pits driver against driver during entirely different track conditions and since qualifying is suppose to line up the competitors by performance, as now structured, it serves no purpose whatever.
So here is an idea - Mosely close the FIA Technical office and roll that enormous cost over to the teams. The rules will state engine size by displacement and a minimum weight. That is all that is needed.
Down with Max ! Hooray for free thinking and innovation and improving the breed.
If Max had been around in 1951 the disc brake would not have been invented.
There would be a 47 page document describing how to build your drum brakes.

Wow. The band played La Marseillaise on the podium. Who would have guessed that 1?
Good race!

I read an article in the paper about 2 years ago that Nascar had bought Speedvision. I'm not sure if this was a sarcastic comment due to the fact that every facet of this sport is covered in minute detail, or if it was a genuine fact. It seemed to coincide with a lot of decent racing being dropped from the channel. No more Brit or German touring cars and a lot of other stuff that seems to be missing.
Anyone know the facts?

One way or another, the Italians know how to steal the show. When was the last time you saw an all Italian front row? When was the last time the Italian national anthem was played for the driver, not the constructors? It was a great race to watch. MS was having a good race coming from the back until he had that incident.

OK. So I watched my first F1 Grand Prix in years last night. It was great that it was on live at 9:30 PM (EST). It's been a while since I followed F1 really carefully. Yes, I do have the entire 1994 season on VHS tapes somewhere in my house..... My biggest source of confusion was I was not familiar with the latest livrey colors and with some of the new names.
I did recognize Coulthardt's helmet though!
Just a few thoughts on the new rule changes we're playing with this year;
- Why in the world are there 16 tire changing pit crew members over the wall at each pit stop? Same for the Jack man in the front.
- How big an issue was the "no tire change" during the race.
- It was nice to see, at least two new faces on the podium. Rubens kinda snuck his way up to second pretty well, huh?
- Lets see how the Renault engines hold up for a second race, since Shumacher can now put in a fresh engine after his "retirement"?
Now if I can find a way to watch race #2. Live ain't gonna happen. I could barely stay awake for this one. Does SPEED re-broadcast the races at a decent hour???
Thanks

Mark,
It's time to invest in a TiVo unit. You won't regret it.

The races used to be re-broadcast a number of times within a week after the race, but with the conversion of Speedvision to Na$$scrap-Vision, I don't know how many times they will be re-broadcast, or when.

Speed is starting a re-broadcast of the GP as we speak.
I also read that Nascar bought Speedvision and rebadged it to just Speed.
Go turn on your TV!

Australia was a good race! Anthony lets not forget that Renault's race is run by an Italian. Hmm come to think of it, Ferrari's race is run by a brit and the shebang by a Frenchman. F1 has always been an International sport and I enjoy the anthems at the awards ceremony.
Did you notice that BAR is running Honda's quick shift transmission. That turns out not have been a Ferrari is cheating incident, and Minardi well you just can't explain that debacle. But I do agree that the courts had no business in the question at all. I am convinced that the rules changes were a total waste and that Mosely should step down.
I read that Speed was purchased by Fox Communications who will run only what has an audience of over some huge magic number. Rupert Murdoch is a menace to mankind.
All in all a fun start of the season.

Although the new tire and motor rules make racing cheaper, I think they also make things much more boring. I think F1 works best as almost a formula libre...with very few rules at all
