Verde AFM adjustment
Does anyone know how to adjust the AFM on the Milano Verde.
My Verde has a lack of getting rev-up fast between 1500-3000 rpm more or less.
On the other hand my GTV6 2.5L takes off quickly the way it should be.
It had to do with AFM, that's what I was told by my mechanic.

Really? Is this observation done with you in the car just stabbing at the accelerator pedal, or in first gear on take-off? Has anyone ever monkey'd around with it before? Does it still have the factory aluminum cap on the idle C/O? Does the vehicle pass smog? What is your ignition static advance set at?
You do know that the cams and transaxles are different on the two vehicles & they will not be the same.

This happens on take-off or when slowing down on 2nd gear and back at stepping on the accelator pedal.
Yes the vehicle passes emission with no problem.
Is The C/O cap the one on the AFM looks like allen wrench adjustment screw? if yes, that has a piece of duct tape to cover it, maybe the previous owner has done something with the adjustment, that's why they have the tape.....
I still have to check the timing, it might be that too as well.
I know the 2.5L and 3.0L has different cams and transaxle, but the car has lack of power below 3000 rpm, it should rev faster than what it is now.

G'Day Giorgio,
This PDF will explain what you need, however do check the timing and do test the AFM before opening it. The carbon track should also be cleaned with pure alcohol.

theres a black cap on top of the afm, about 2x2" in size. its got bosch and a part number moulded into it.
under that is a toothed wheel, and a wire spring which holds the wheel in position using the teeth.
the wheel is connected to the spring that controls the flap inside the afm, so the wheel is used to addjust how tight that flap spring is. tighter will lean the engine off and looser will richen it, but im not sure about how it affects the rev range a whole.
if you afm has never been opened [mine was held on with duct tape when i go it] the flap spring MIGHT have lost a little power , so it might need tightening via the wheel.
this is what i understand about the afm and adjusting it. i could be wrong but youll have to wait for a wiser bber to reply.
edit:
like the guy above....

If you start messing with the AFM I would suggest getting an air-fuel-ratio meter including wideband O2 sensor (such as the unit available from Innovate Motorsports) to measure where you are and where you are going, to make sure you aren't doing more damage than good.
First step is to set all the basics correctly, e.g. timing as mentioned above.
My $0.02,
Jes

AFM adjustment and lot's of other tidbits to look at before you crack it open can be found on Greg Gordons website.

The slew of questions was to illicit some useable info Giorgio, hope you don't mind. Yes the idle C/O is the well with the allen screw in it. The factory sets (calibrates) the spring tension and the idle C/O and then places an aluminum cap on it. If yours is missing, then someone was probably in there. If you look at the aforementioned black cap and it appears to have newish-looking silicon sealant on there, then spring tension was probably adjusted as well.
Many seeking more performance thought loosening the AFM was like fine tuning a carburetor accelerator pump circuit. Well, sort 'ave. Most only succeeded in hosing their idle quality and causing their injector duty cycle to go 100% prematurly (too rich, too soon). For now, let's assume it's ok because you've passed emissions.
I'd look at ignition timing first. Check (with timing light) your static advance. The Verde stock advance should be 7* BTDC at 900rpm.
Centerline Tune-up Data .pdf, click "Tune Up Data, Ignition and Distributor". Also, make sure the vacuum advance hose isn't cracked or otherwise unserviceable, and check the vacuum advance diaphragm for leaking.
P.S. Want a little more get-up-and-go? Add 5-7* more advance (just remember to set it back on smog day).

Thank you all guys for all the technical information. I will try to check the timing first, then take it from there.

ciao Giorgio,
Did you resolve your problem? What was it?
BTW - I'm running 10* of advance and my GTV6 starts immediately and when I jab the accelerator - she doesn't question or complain. She goes!

Yes it is resolved, I checked the timing first and turned out to be 7 degrees off. Now it runs the way it suppose to be no delays or anything, what a difference man.
Regards,
Giorgio
