milano abs

Forgive me if this has been covered before. My Verde now spends more time in the garage than on the road. When I started driving it last week, the ABS would work intermittantly, the not-working mode a rock hard pedal. Now the pedal is hard all the time. The pump works with 12 volts applied to it. The accumulator is relatively (in Milano terms) new. What is failing to tell the pump to come on? Pressure switch? Computer?

fuse on fender

Their is a little black box about 1 1/2" long by 1/2" wide on the top of the driver side fender with a flat strap fuse in it. This fuse will get brittle with age and crack. You might just barely see this. Try replacing that first. You might have to retrofit a different type of fuse but it is easy to do. I think it is a 20 amp but would have to check mine.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I forgot to mention that the link was one of the first items I checked, having had one crack before, hoping that would be my easy fix. It wasn't. It was good and I cleaned up all the connections just in case. Still no joy.

Some more to report. Found some good troubleshooting info on a Saab site. Dug behind the fuse box to find the relays and fuses. One of the 30 amp fuses (pump?) was thoroughly destroyed. Got a replacement fuse holder and fuse and installed. No dire consequences. Checked the relay. It was good. Checked for 12v to relay. Was there. Jumpered across wires to make pump run. It did. However, it was not putting out any pressure. Does the pump need a bit more positive head to prime itself when it has been running dry? Since I'm not sure what sort of pump it is (gear, vane, ???) I don't know what pump wear can cause. Any ideas out there?

I believe it should not take much time at all. I remember reading that to test the pump one should pump the pedal many times with the car off, then turn it back on to see if the pump brings it back up to preassure, but don't hold me to this, I am a 164 guy
