Sometimes people reverse the plenum to make space for a strut brace over the back of the engine. I suspect a customer ordered that engine and didn't pay - I doubt they would paint the valve covers read on every engine they did.

I saw that engine a few weekends ago. I bought some headers from the guy. He is selling a lot of parts and has been involved with tuning V6s since the 80s.

That being said I told him the plenum was backwards three weeks ago too! He even took it off in front of me and put it on the right way. Pictures are probably old.

Never did get a story on how he ended up with that motor. He wanted $1400 or $1500 for it on the spot.

Interesting.

Grant - So be providing space for a strut brace the plenum was reversed (and with it I assume most of the intake plumbing).

I guess I did not realize that there would be that much "strut tower" flex as, short of adding coil-overs, there was not a load bearing -strut mount tower that could flex- on these cars.

Food for thought.

I've got a strut brace on my car and there is no flex at all. It just clears the plenum and the hood closes just fine..

Plenum was probably just slapped back on for the pics. Note the cam covers have been cut down and the de-tensioner has quite a bit of oil on it.

He should have taken pics of the rebuild receipt. Unless he did it himself, in that case one would want more info. Like, why were the pistons, liners, and bearings replaced? Probably trauma. What about the rods? Usually these engines can go 200k easily on the bottom-end. Top side is where a 150-160k engine needs work. "Valve job" is vague. Oil pump?

Anyhow, you'd want compression readings and a guarantee/warrantee on the work. Not uncommon for DIY folks to make mistakes on a "Fresh rebuild". 'course it depends on who dunnit IMO.

Sorry folks, i nearly fell off my chair when i saw that pic
How can you even do it by mistake? i mean honestly, its got 6C written on it? hardly gonna face the driver is it

Iam always cautious buying "rebuilt" motors unless i know the builder
but then ive always prefered to build my own

It looks nice enough tho....

On the subject of a brace, take out your slam panel (bit with bonnet/hood catch in it) just the top bit.... then measure the gap... oops like mine it will close up by nearly 2 inches and thats static! (i only removed mine to aid the "in out" procedure of fitting my 24v)
