Weird Killswitch problem.

Hey everyone,

I recently did a rear battery conversion on a milano, placed a killswitch up front where the battery used to be. From doing this install I noticed that my turning over when trying to start was slow. I used 2/0 wire, and there is no voltage drop from the rear to front.
Anyways, it got cold here and I tried to start up but wasnt able to get it going. Battery drained.
I boosted from the killswitch connected to where the battery connects and grounded on the engine and she started fine with full power to everything.
Upon recharging my battery (trickle charger) I try to start and it doesnt even attempt to start, kind of like when the battery has no juice.
Could the killswitch be messed up?
What fuses can I check? I also found on the grounding right beside the passenger headlight the 2nd from the right ground was burnt, this seems to lead to my A/C pump?
I think my next step here is to connect a battery back up front and see if it will start then.
Any other ideas?

Thanks!

Alright,

I flipped the killswitch a few times, made sure it was all tight on the killswitch.
-Checked all fuses, none are done for
- Checked the grounded wire that had heated up, reconnected (temporary, gonna replace it if i decide to keep A/C)
-Played with the positive terminal connection a fair bit.

Started up after messing with that positive.

Im gonna go get the 'army' style battery terminal connector..mainly cause i dont like the dinky battery connectors, and pick up an ultima battery pretty quick here.

The rear conversion really does change the feel of the car, its very nice.

I know this may sound stupid, but you DID ground the battery in the boot didn't you?

Have you checked that ground? Measured the resistance of it? It should be 0.5ohms or less.

Have you upgraded the main ground in the engine bay that runs from the block to the chassis?

I have a setup very similar to what you're describing and have no issues whatsoever. I can turnover the car faster than some very modern ones, which I thought was mildly impressive considering it's travelling from the back! I'll snap a few photos of the different versions I have on my daily and the track car to compare to what you've got - both work perfectly.

Ground from chassis to block has not been upgraded, but i do have extra 2/0. Actually come to think of it the block to chassis has a dinky little wire atm.

It is grounded in the trunk, i stripped the paint away where it is connected as well.

Thanks,

Im interested in seeing your conversion pictures.

*known before doing the conversion* I had some starting troubles before and would fix it by moving the positive terminal for the best connection. PO had the alternator and starter cable running into the same connection at the battery (as in both in the main clamp), so i gave the alternator its own connecter and that solved it mostly for the remainder of time the battery was up front.

I'd definitely upgrade that main ground - I once had a mass of troubles with starting my car when hot, as it appeared my immobiliser wasn't turning off. After all the checking and double checking, it finally turned out that that ground was loose, and when it was hot, would basically stop grounding.

Anyway pictures - I've uploaded them to my public gallery for you, captions attached.

Basically the switch in the box is wired exactly the same as the external switch on the track car, except of course it's in a box for protection. Interestingly enough though, everything is actually 4ga.

Alright, I made a 1/0 grounding wire that connects from the regular engine block area and grounds on the stock grounding area as well.
Car turns over as fast if not faster than stock.
Still having an odd battery though, I think this battery is going on 5 years now though, so I'll change that out.

Thanks for the pics!

It's amazing what that changing one short run of wire can do.

As I said before, a loose bolt on that earth had me sitting in carparks burning my hands trying to figure out why my car wouldn't turn on.

It's a good feeling getting the car started before new ones! Hehe!
