Quick help???

Tonight I took my Milano out of storage, put in fresh fuel and was driving her home to put in my garage where I can continue with her restoration. We were almost home when I caught a yellow and mashed on the brakes so as to not leave my wife, who was following me, at the red light. As I did so, the engine died and wouldn't restart...not even close. I quickly realized that the fuel pump wasn't making it's usual whirring sound.

I have two questions.

1. How would mashing the brakes, produce a dead fuel pump?

2. Where's the most likely place to look for the fix?

PS.. When I first bought her a couple years ago, I was having intermitten problems with the fuel pump not getting current. I cleaned the contacts in one of the relays on the firewall and it seemed to resolve it. Tonight I cleaned those contacts again but still no fuel pump whir.

AFM inertia switch?

The AMF door is shut but not stuck. It that it's normal position with all power off?
I have a feeling it has something to do the sudden stop. I understand there is no inertia switch per se, but read that an equivalent mechanism is contained somehow in the AFM.
Can anyone point me to an online manual that discusses the Inertia switch or it's equivalent on the Milano?
