Gear Oil Leak (Standard Milano Verde)

I have a leak where the gearbox attaches to the rest of the transmission (intermediate flange? area) There is no gasket at the connection. My mechanic already tried slightly tightening the bolts to no avail. Is there a fix short of removing the entire transaxle in order to reapply the sealant?

Yes there is a short easy fix. Jack the car up and drain all the oil. Wait until it stops dripping from the leak, it may take a whole day. Then smear a very think bead of Permatex brand "Weld Stick" putty. It will dry within a couple hours. Re fill the transaxle and drive away, no more leaks! When it's time to dissasemble the transaxle the "Weld Stick" putty will break apart when you separate the transaxle halfs, it's not a problem.

Sounds good - one more question though

I'm new to all this. What is a good product to clean all the accreted gunk off with before applying the stick?

haha
sorry, but that was just funny.
He really does mean dish soap. U know, the stuff you wash dishes with. Obviously not the powder, the stuff that u squeeze out of a bottle.

Glad to hear your doing your own maintenance!

Yeh, if you dont, you pay through the nose for labor costs . And if you get it done somewhere cheap, they'll brake it for you!

I'll start doing mine ASAP
